Wimbledon Park Wall Beds

In Wimbledon Park, we design wall beds around the room you actually have. We design your wall bed at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • A guest bed that disappears in the day
  • More floor space in a studio flat
  • Room for a desk and a guest bed

Wall beds for your home in Wimbledon Park

About our wall beds in Wimbledon Park

Studio flats benefit more than most from a bed that folds away. By day, the room is a living space, and at night it becomes a bedroom. We can build shelves, cupboards or a desk around the bed cabinet, so the whole wall works hard. If you’re living with a home office that also sleeps guests and a studio that works by day and night, wall beds made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

Fitted furniture in a bedroom has to work with how you use the room. In Wimbledon Park, as anywhere in London, we start by asking what the room is for. The layout, the doors and the inside follow from that. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted, in a colour agreed with you.

Everything we agree during the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Off-the-shelf units can leave gaps at the sides or top. A bespoke cabinet can run the full width and height, with storage or shelves filling the rest of the wall. Standard widths and heights seldom suit an actual room, which leaves gaps at the sides and wasted space on top. Fitted furniture is made to the room.

Rooms that are not square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That is reflected in the quote, written once we have measured up.

Common questions about wall beds

My home in Wimbledon Park is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

I live near Earlsfield station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Merton and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Do photos help?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.

What does a wall bed cost?

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Size, storage and finish all affect the price. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Is a wall bed safe?

A secure fixing and careful use are what matter. The mechanism is fixed exactly as its maker sets out; you lower it steadily with the floor clear.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

How fitting works for wall beds

When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections made at our workshop come in next, a piece at a time. How long the fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, each piece is fitted to the room’s own walls, with scribing where they wander and packing where floors dip. Spray-painted pieces arrive finished; hand-painted ones can be finished on site.

  1. It starts with a short note from you.
  2. At the design visit we agree the layout and the colour.
  3. A written quote follows.
  4. The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood; a spray finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
  5. We fit everything in your home and check the bed lowers and lifts smoothly.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

What wall beds cannot fix

We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:

  • New sockets, lighting or wiring (your electrician)
  • Building work to make a wall sound
  • Plastering or decorating the room

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can send us a few details through our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How a job runs, step by step.

What it’s made from

  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Shelves or a desk alongside
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Fold-down bed mechanism

What it is made from

Bed mechanism housing

The housing has to be strong and square, so we build it with care. It’s fixed into a wall or floor that can take the load.

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting gives a traditional finish in a period room.

What affects the price in Wimbledon Park

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. This is what makes the difference:

  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • The internal fittings
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Before the design visit

There is no need for exact sizes or plans. It’s enough to send:

  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, especially with rough sizes. To send them over, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Bedroom storage in Wimbledon Park

Homes built before 1919 make up about 42% of the housing in the area around Wimbledon Park, with about 19% built between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Part of Wimbledon Park is in the Wimbledon North Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you are unsure. About 43% of households in the neighbourhood around Wimbledon Park live in purpose-built flats, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. For a flat, wall beds are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like The Old Rectory House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. If you live in a flat close to Earlsfield station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If you live near King George's Park, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.
