Window seats for your home in Brunswick Park
How we make window seats for Brunswick Park
The storage under a window seat is often as useful as the seat itself. A lift-up lid opens the whole space beneath the seat, while drawers mean you don’t have to move a cushion to reach things. We’ll talk through which suits the way you use the room. People typically come to us about a bay window that’s hard to furnish and toys spread across a bedroom floor; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
An interwar house normally has a proper landing, sometimes with a recess or an airing cupboard, which can hold fitted storage for linen and spare bedding. If yours is one of the interwar houses, semis or detached homes that make up much of the housing around Brunswick Park, it’s worth looking up as well as down. If a boiler or cylinder sits there, it keeps its clearances and access.
Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made at our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

When you need someone else
As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. It helps to know these before you plan the job:
- Any change to radiator pipes, which needs a plumber
- Repairs to sash windows, cills or shutters
- Seat cushions, which you source separately

FAQs: window seats in Brunswick Park
Can you make window seats for a home in Brunswick Park?
Yes, we work across Barnet, Brunswick Park included, and across the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.
I live near New Southgate station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Barnet and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. Electrical work is not something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design.
What happens at the design visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a quote in writing.
Do photos help?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. It’s useful to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
What does a bespoke window seat cost?
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The shape of the window, the mix of drawers and lids, and any grille all play a part. Everything is set out in a quote in writing after the visit.

What else we make in Brunswick Park
Is bespoke worth it?
For a straight window with no radiator, a ready-made bench can do the job. Bespoke work makes sense when the window is a bay, there’s a radiator below, or you want storage built in. We are happy to give an honest view during the design visit. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, and standalone units can lean or gap. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.
Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. It helps to talk about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan for it.

How fitting works for window seats
However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the shape of the bay or recess and what goes under the seat, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- It starts when you contact us about a window seat. Say how you’d like to use it, if you know.
- At the design visit, we look at the window, the radiator and what you need.
- A quote in writing follows, with the fitting days agreed. Read it through and ask if anything is unclear.
- We make the seat, the lids or drawers and any grille in our workshop.
- The seat is fitted and set level, ready for a cushion.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
Starting with a design visit
Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you’re ready, get in touch through our contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Caring for painted furniture
Most of what helps is simple. Here’s what we suggest:
- Move furniture away from the window so we can measure
- Decide whether you’d like a lid, drawers or both
- Decide if the seat is part of a larger piece
- Check whether there is a radiator under the window
We open each lid and drawer with you before we go. If there is a radiator grille, we make sure the radiator is clear and the grille is in place. That way, everything works as planned.
Check now and then that hinges and handles are tight. Tightening early stops a small looseness getting worse. If a lid or drawer starts to catch, fill in our short enquiry form and describe what’s happening.
Fitted storage in Brunswick Park
In the neighbourhood around Brunswick Park, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 60%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 13%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your home in Brunswick Park is on or near a main road, tell us during the design visit. We will plan where the van can stop. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Barnet has its own. If your street in Brunswick Park is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension through the council may be needed. It helps to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.
If you live in a flat close to New Southgate station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. For an older house near Oakleigh Community Church, a bay or a sash window is a natural place for a window seat. If your children go to St Andrew the Apostle Greek Orthodox School or a school nearby, window seats can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home.

- The internal fittings
- The width and height of the space
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
There’s no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
