About our window seats in Wembley Park
The storage under a window seat is often as useful as the seat itself. A lift-up lid opens the whole space beneath the seat, while drawers are easier to reach if there is a cushion on top. At the design visit in Wembley Park, we will help you choose. Typical reasons to get in touch are a recess under the window doing nothing and a radiator under the window getting in the way, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
In a home built since 2000, there are often spaces the builder left plain, like a recess, a landing corner or an empty cupboard. Many homes around Wembley Park date from 2000 onwards, so spaces like that are worth a second look. The layout inside is planned to use the full depth.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Looking after your furniture
None of this takes much effort. Here’s what we suggest:
- Think about what you will store under the seat
- Let us know about parking near your home
- Think about the cushion you’d like and who will make it
- Note the position of any radiator and its pipes
A soft, damp cloth is the best way to keep the seat clean. Dry it afterwards, and avoid abrasive pads and strong solvents. The front edge picks up marks first.
Keep the radiator grille clear so the heat can reach the room. Keeping it clear helps the radiator work as it should. Storage over a radiator stays warm, so it is best for things that don’t mind it.
Common questions about window seats
How do you fit window seats in a flat in Wembley Park?
At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. Window seats are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Do you cover homes near Wembley Stadium station?
Yes, homes across Brent and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Who chooses the colour?
You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you.
Which materials go into your window seats?
Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. A moisture-resistant grade suits a spot by a window, where condensation can form. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
Flats, conversions and lettings
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or tricky room. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, finished by spray or by hand.
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it.

Storage in Wembley Park homes: local notes
In the neighbourhood around Wembley Park, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 57%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 29%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Wembley Park include Brent Town Hall (Grade II), less than half a mile north-east, and Wembley Hill Lodge (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-west. If your own home is listed, internal works that affect its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. A quarter or more of the homes in the streets around Wembley Park (about 29%) date from between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Many houses of that era have bay windows, natural places for a window seat, with a grille where there’s a radiator underneath.
If you live in a period home close to St Augustine, the deep reveals of an older window can frame a seat neatly. If you live in a flat close to Wembley Stadium station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If you live near St. Raphael's Edible Garden, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and window seats can give those things a place.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Off-the-shelf benches aren’t designed to sit over a radiator. Placed in front of a radiator, they block the warmth. A bespoke seat has a grille or open front designed in, so the heat can reach the room. In a compact new-build room, standard sizes rarely fit the walls exactly, and fitted furniture uses that space. It can also be planned around boxed-in pipes and risers.
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.

See how bespoke compares with ready-made or what a quote should include.
When is bespoke worth it?
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
How fitting day works
Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on whether the seat has drawers, a lift-up lid or a radiator grille, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Fitting day starts by covering floors and setting out the sections. Each piece is levelled and fixed to suit plasterboard or block. Hand-painted finishes can be completed once the furniture is in.
