Window seats in Stonebridge Park
Window seats for homes in Stonebridge Park
A seat under a bedroom or nursery window can store toys, bedding or books. With deep drawers or a lift-up lid, it becomes useful storage as well as a place to sit. For children’s rooms, drawers are often easier for small hands than a heavy lid. Whatever the room, the process for a home in Stonebridge Park is the same. We make window seats from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are looking for a reading spot by the window and standard furniture leaving gaps in a bay.
Newer homes tend to have finished floors that scratch easily, so we cover them while we work. Many homes around Stonebridge Park were built since 2000, and their plasterboard walls need fixings into the studs or made for the board. The storage can sit on its own plinth or be scribed over the skirting.
Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Storage in Stonebridge Park homes: local notes
In the neighbourhood around Stonebridge Park, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 50%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 24%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Part of Stonebridge Park is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. All of London, Brent included, is inside the ULEZ. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Stonebridge Park. How the van gets to your door is planned during the design visit.
If your children go to Our Lady of Lourdes RC Primary School or a school nearby, window seats can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home. Close to St. Raphael's Edible Garden? Window seats can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. Pitzhanger Manor, about 2.8 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a radiator under the window just needs a grille in the seat front.
Stonebridge Park is about 3 miles east of Kilburn, in the London Borough of Brent. From period terraces to newer flats in Stonebridge Park, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. We cover places right across Brent.

Pull-out drawers
With drawers, you don’t need to move the cushion to reach your things. They suit toys, books and things you use often. Each drawer is sized for the space.
Lift-up lids
A lift-up lid gives access to the full depth of the seat. It suits blankets, toys and things you don’t need every day. We make the lid to open and close cleanly.
What window seats can’t fix
Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work aren’t part of what we do. Please bear these in mind too:
- Seat cushions, which you source separately
- Electrical work around the seat
- Painting the walls of the bay
If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.
What goes into it
- Lift-up lids or drawers
- Spray-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Hand-painted finish
- Radiator grilles
- Birch plywood
Is bespoke worth it?
Ready-made benches are made in fixed widths and depths. Bespoke seats are made to the size of the space, so nothing is wasted, and the storage below can be drawers, a lid or both. Separate ready-made pieces can make an open-plan room feel unplanned, whereas fitted furniture can define each part of the room.
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.

Questions we are often asked
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Stonebridge Park?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
How do you fit window seats in a flat in Stonebridge Park?
At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
It can be done with some care: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
What happens at the design visit?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a written quote.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
It is something we deal with all the time. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can need listed building consent, so ask the council’s conservation officer.
Fitting day, step by step
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the measuring visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving the room tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the bay or recess and what goes under the seat, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Newer homes often have stud walls, so on fitting day heavy pieces go into the studs or stand on the floor. Floors are covered while we work.
- First you tell us about the bay or window where you’d like a seat.
- At the design visit we measure the bay or recess and check the radiator, cill and any shutters.
- A quote in writing follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out, for you to look over.
- We make the seat, the lids or drawers and any grille in our workshop. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The seat is fitted in your home and checked so the lids and drawers run well.
Before fitting day
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
Getting a quote
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.
Advice
Tips worth knowing
New paint needs time to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. After that, a few simple habits help:
- Tell us about the radiator before we visit
- Check the shutters so the seat can leave room for them
- Consider adding shelving around the seat
- Move furniture away from the window so we can measure
Before we leave, we check every lid and drawer with you. Any grille is checked so the radiator can still warm the room. You will know it all works as it should.
Don’t block the grille with cushions or things stored in front of it. Keeping it clear helps the radiator work as it should. Storage over a radiator stays warm, so it’s best for things that don’t mind it.
