Window seats in Wembley, Brent

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make window seats for homes in Wembley, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Wanting a seat without blocking the radiator
  • Needing more storage in the room
  • Off-the-shelf pieces that never quite fit the window

Window seats for homes in Wembley

Window seats work in bedrooms and children’s rooms as well as living rooms. With deep drawers or a lift-up lid, it becomes useful storage as well as a place to sit. For children’s rooms, drawers are often easier for small hands than a heavy lid. Whatever the room, the process for a home in Wembley is the same. If you are living with off-the-shelf pieces that never quite fit the window and a sash window with space beneath it going to waste, that’s what window seats are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

In a home built since 2000, there are often spaces the builder left plain, like a recess, a landing corner or an empty cupboard. Around Wembley, many homes were built since 2000, and fitted storage can make spaces like that far more useful. Drawers and shelves can make use of the full depth.

The furniture is made at our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Your questions about window seats in Wembley

I live near North Wembley station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Brent and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

How do you fit window seats in a flat in Wembley?

At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. Window seats are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

How long does it take to fit a window seat?

How long the fitting takes depends on whether the seat has drawers, a lift-up lid or a radiator grille, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. The seat is made at our workshop first, so the time in your home is spent fitting. We work tidily and keep the room as clear as possible.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

It can be done with some care: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

Is it time for window seats?

Some people plan a window seat as part of updating a room. It’s worth talking to us before decorating, so the work can be timed sensibly. Decorating itself is for your decorator.

Here’s what window seats can help with:

  • A radiator under the window getting in the way
  • Looking for a reading spot by the window
  • Standard furniture leaving gaps in a bay
  • Toys spread across a bedroom floor

If your home is one of the older houses near St Augustine, a bay or a sash window is a natural place for a window seat.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room

How to choose a carpenter in London

How it’s made

Lift-up lids

A lid that lifts is the simplest form of window seat storage. You’ll need to move any cushion to open it, so it suits things you reach for now and then.

Pull-out drawers

Drawers under a window seat are easy to reach, even with a cushion on top. They’re ideal for everyday items. We size the drawers to suit the seat.

Flats, leases and landlords

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We can’t advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so each section is sized to get through.

Storage in Wembley homes: local notes

About 53% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Wembley went up since 2000, and about 30% between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Wembley include Wembley Hill Lodge (Grade II), less than half a mile south-east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling may need listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Around a third of the homes in the area around Wembley (about 30%) date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Many houses of that era have bay windows, natural places for a window seat.

For a flat near North Wembley station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it. If you live near Preston Park, window seats can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

How fitting works for window seats

You are welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving everything tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the window and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Before fixing into a stud wall, we check for pipes and cables, and heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor. Other trades handle any new sockets or plumbing, ideally before fitting day.

  1. You get in touch about a window seat.
  2. We visit to measure and discuss the design, the storage and the finish.
  3. You receive a written quote for the design, materials and finish.
  4. The seat is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood; a spray-painted finish is done there for a smooth, even surface.
  5. We fit it in your home, and a hand-painted finish is applied in the room.
  6. Give new paintwork gentle use while it cures; a hand-painted finish is easy to touch up later.

How to prepare

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

Why bespoke in Wembley?

Off-the-shelf benches are made for straight walls and square corners, but bays have angled sides and walls that are rarely flat. In a bay, a standard bench leaves tricky gaps. A bespoke seat follows the shape of the bay. It is a bigger investment, and the gain is a seat that fits the space. Off-the-shelf depths can crowd a compact new-build room, whereas fitted pieces can be as shallow as the space needs. It still uses the full height.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
