Bespoke kitchens for your home in Clapham
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

An island can be a good addition where there is space for one. We check there’s comfortable space on every side, because a cramped island makes a kitchen harder to work in. If the room is narrow, we will suggest other layouts. If your home has a kitchen island with room around it and cabinets built around the appliances you choose, that is what kitchens are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Older homes typically have generous ceiling heights, and a large share of the homes around Clapham date from then. Kitchen cabinets can go higher, with tall larders and top cupboards for occasional things. Cabinets are made from moisture-resistant MDF or birch plywood, with the finish agreed in your quote.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the kitchen we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and it is what the workshop builds to.

What bespoke kitchens can’t fix
We design, make and fit the furniture. In practice, that means:
- Gas work, which is for a Gas Safe engineer
- Building work, like removing walls
- Wiring for appliances and lights
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can get in touch through our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. How it works.
What goes into it
- Larders and dressers
- Islands where space allows
- Hand-painted finish
- Spray-painted finish
- Birch plywood
- Moisture-resistant MDF
How we price bespoke kitchens
There is no set price, because there is no set room. The things that affect it are:
- How square the room is
- The internal fittings
- Parking and unloading on your street
- The overall size of the piece
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside during the design visit.
What we need to know
Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Your postcode and the borough
The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To book one, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Fitting day, step by step
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Older London houses often have narrow hallways and tight turns on the stairs, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors and stair carpets are protected on the way in and out.
- You tell us about the room and how you use it.
- We visit to measure and go through the design and storage. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
- We send a quote in writing setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
- We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop.
- Fitting day: we fit the cabinets, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe engineer handle the services.
How to prepare
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
Ask for a quote
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.
Advice
Materials and finishes
Doors and drawer fronts
Doors and drawer fronts can be flat, framed or panelled, painted in a colour you choose.
Moisture-resistant MDF
Most painted kitchen doors we make are moisture-resistant MDF, because it stays flat.
Bespoke kitchens for homes in Clapham
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Clapham were built before 1919 (about 45%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 21%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Clapham is partly covered by the Rectory Grove Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. Controlled parking zones cover much of inner London, and each borough runs its own. So a van fitting furniture in Clapham typically needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension arranged through the council. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.
For a family home near Clapham Manor Primary School, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen. If you live in a flat close to Clapham High Street station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. If your home is one of the older houses near St Paul's Church, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.

Questions from Clapham
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Clapham?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
I live in a flat in Clapham. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Kitchens are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.
How long will the kitchen take to fit?
It depends on the kitchen. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You do. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.
