Kidbrooke Wall Beds

In Kidbrooke, we design wall beds around the room you actually have. We design your wall bed at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • A home office that also sleeps guests
  • A bed that fills a little-used room
  • A living room with a bed that folds away

Wall beds designed for your room

Flats, leases and landlords

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so tell us about it during the design visit.

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Wall beds in Kidbrooke: what you get

Our wall beds are made for homes in Kidbrooke and all over London. First comes a design visit, where we measure and look at the wall, followed by a quote. We make everything in our workshop and fit it in your home. The time the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you will know ahead of time. If you’re living with a home office that also sleeps guests and hiding the bed when it’s not in use, wall beds made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Kidbrooke, the spare room may be the small one at the front, over the hall and stairs. Small rooms like that suit wall beds, whether the room is a guest room, a dressing room or a study. Nothing is assumed: the room is measured wall by wall.

After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish.

Bedrooms in Kidbrooke: local notes

In the neighbourhood around Kidbrooke, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 60%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 13%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for wall beds, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Kidbrooke is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. Where a home in Kidbrooke is on or beside a main road, it’s useful to mention that at the measuring visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.

The wider area includes historic houses such as Eltham Palace, about 1.3 miles south. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where wall beds go. If you live in a period home close to St Barnabas, tall ceilings give wall beds room to reach the cornice. For a flat near Kidbrooke station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

Kidbrooke is about 2 miles north-east of Plumstead, within the Royal Borough of Greenwich. We design and make wall beds for homes in Kidbrooke, as part of our work in every London borough. We cover places right across Greenwich, large and small.

Every address in SE3, SE9 and SE18 is within our area for wall beds, from the main roads to the quieter streets. If your home is on a street like Brome Road, Briset Road and Nesbit Road, or close by, we can visit to measure up for wall beds. We also cover Well Hall (1 mile south-east), Shooter's Hill (1 mile east), Middle Park (1 mile south), Horn Park (1 mile south-west) and Blackheath (1 mile west). Elsewhere in Greenwich, we also cover Plumstead (2 miles north-east), Greenwich (2 miles north-west), Woolwich (2 miles north-east), Westcombe Park (2 miles north-west), Maze Hill (2 miles north-west) and Coldharbour (2 miles south).

Looking after your furniture

Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • Treat new paintwork gently at first
  • Look at your lease before fixing to the walls
  • Tell us what the wall is made of if you know
  • Keep children away while the bed moves

The mechanism maker’s guidance says how much bedding can stay on the bed when it folds away. Bulky duvets and pillows may need storing nearby.

Think about who will sleep in the bed and how often. That helps decide its size and the mechanism as well as the storage around it.

Honest limits

It’s worth being clear about where our work stops:

  • Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
  • Electrical work for reading lights
  • Decorating around the cabinet

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can get in touch through our contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

From workshop to your room

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You tell us about the room.
  2. We come to measure and talk through the bed, the storage and the finish.
  3. A written quote follows.
  4. The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood; a spray finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
  5. The wall bed is fitted, and any hand painting is done on site.

Before fitting day

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going

Advice

What it’s made from

Bed mechanism housing

The housing has to be strong and square, so we build it with care. It is fixed into a wall or floor that can take the load.

Spray-painted finish

You choose the colour, and we apply it in the workshop.

Questions we are often asked

Does a conservation area in or near Kidbrooke affect fitted furniture?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Kidbrooke?

It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.

Is a wall bed safe for everyday use?

A secure fixing and careful use are what matter. The mechanism is fixed exactly as its maker sets out; you lower it steadily with the floor clear.

Can landlords use you for a rented flat?

Yes. We make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let as well as for homeowners. We will need access agreed with any tenants.

Do you make the furniture yourselves?

Everything is built in our workshop for your room, then brought to your home and fitted. It’s built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

Do you work outside London?

No. Our work is in London only: all 32 boroughs and the City of London.
