Bespoke Kitchens in Arnos Grove
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make bespoke kitchens for homes in Arnos Grove, each designed at a visit to your home.
- A dresser that suits a period house
- A central island in a larger kitchen
- Tall larder storage

Before and after fitting day
A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:
- Have damp sorted before fitting
- Tell us about parking at the design visit
- Choose your appliances before the design is final
- Treat new paintwork gently at first
We adjust the doors and drawers as part of the fitting. Walls and floors shift slightly through the year, and hinges can be adjusted to keep the gaps even.
Choose your appliances before the design is finalised. We size the spaces around them, and changing them later can mean changing the units.
Bespoke kitchens for homes in Arnos Grove
Older London homes are rarely simple places to fit a kitchen. Walls lean, corners are not square and floors slope, sometimes noticeably over a single run of units. We scribe the cabinets to the walls and set them level on adjustable feet or a plinth, so the worktop you choose can sit level. Most enquiries start with extra cupboard space and cabinets for a narrow kitchen, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
In a period terrace, the front door, hall and any turn into the kitchen limit the size of each piece. Around Arnos Grove, a large share of homes were built before 1919, so the route to the kitchen is measured during the design visit. Long runs are made in sections and joined on site.
Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Tell us about it when you contact us.
Fitting day, step by step
In older rooms, the furniture normally has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors and stair carpets are protected on the way in and out.
- We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold. Larders, dressers and islands can all be part of it, where space allows.
- At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
- We send a quote in writing setting out the cabinets, materials and finish, ready for you to check.
- We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop.
- We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
Starting with a design visit
To get a quote, use our contact form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a written quote follows.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
Questions we are often asked
Do you cover homes near New Southgate station?
Yes. We cover all of Enfield and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
Do I choose the paint colour?
The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by arrangement. Tell us when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.
Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?
We plan the kitchen around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose. Knowing their sizes early helps, and your quote sets out what’s included.
What does a bespoke kitchen cost?
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The size of the room, the number of units and the finish all make a difference. For a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
Materials and finishes
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish can be done on site, once the kitchen is fitted. It is easy to touch up later.
Plinths and scribe strips
Scribing is how cabinets meet a wall that is not flat, closing any gaps.

For an older house near Syro-Malabar Catholic Church of London, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. Bruce Castle, about 2.6 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.
