Wall beds for your home in Stonebridge
How we make wall beds for Stonebridge
A wall bed folds up into a fitted cabinet when you do not need it and comes down when it is time to sleep. It lets one room do two jobs, so a guest room can double as a study or playroom. We build the cabinet around the bed to suit the room and finish it to match. If your home has a hobby room with a bed for guests and a bed that fills a little-used room, that’s what wall beds are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Stud walls in newer homes can carry pipes and cables, so we check before fixing into them. Around Stonebridge, where many homes were built since 2000, it’s part of every design visit. Tall pieces are tied into the studs, not just the board.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Fitting day, step by step
You won’t need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed at the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Newer homes often have stud walls, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board. Floors are protected throughout, as many newer homes have finished floors that mark easily.
- To begin, drop us a line using the contact form; a brief note on the room and how often guests stay is plenty.
- We visit to measure up, look at the wall and floor and make sure there’s clear space in front to lower the bed.
- You receive a written quote for the wall bed and any storage.
- The bed housing and any shelves or desk are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day the cabinet goes in, the mechanism is fixed securely and the bed is tried out.
- We go through the bed with you; the cabinet has the spray-painted or hand-painted finish you chose.

Starting with a design visit
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space. To share them, message us from the contact page, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

Flats, conversions and lettings
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you get in touch.
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through.
Common questions about wall beds
How do you fit wall beds in a flat in Stonebridge?
At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.
Is Stonebridge in the area you cover for wall beds?
Yes. We cover all of Brent and the rest of London, and Stonebridge is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.
Are fold-down beds safe to use?
Safety depends on a secure fixing and sensible use. We fix the mechanism as its maker specifies, and you keep the space in front clear and children away while it moves.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We will design around them.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You do. The paint colour is agreed with you.
Practical tips
None of this takes much effort. Here’s what we suggest:
- Leaseholders: check your lease first
- Keep the floor in front clear before lowering the bed
- Choose a mattress that suits the mechanism
- Plan where chairs and desks will sit
Follow the mechanism maker’s guidance each time you lower and lift the bed. Make sure the floor in front is clear before the bed comes down, with children kept well back while it moves.
Check how the cabinet will get into the room. We make the cabinet in sections that fit up the stairs and through the doors, so tell us about narrow stairs or a small lift.
Is it time for wall beds?
Some people are tired of sofa beds. With a wall bed, guests sleep on a real mattress, on a proper frame.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- More floor space in a studio flat
- A guest room that sits empty most of the time
- A home office that also sleeps guests
- A storage wall with a bed inside
For families living near The Stonebridge School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.
What to check before you book
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- Where they’ll park and unload
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
Wall beds for homes in Stonebridge
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Stonebridge were built since 2000 (about 36%) and before 1919 (about 28%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Part of Stonebridge is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you are unsure. About 53% of households around Stonebridge live in purpose-built flats, well above the figure for Brent as a whole, about 38%, the 2021 Census shows. So the route in, from stairs to lifts, is part of the design.
Close to St. Raphael's Edible Garden? Wall beds are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. If you live in a period home close to Saint Michael and All Angels, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design.
