Bespoke kitchens in Tulse Hill: what you get

A bespoke kitchen is built around the room you have. Each cabinet is made to the real measurements of your walls, floor and ceiling, so the runs fit neatly from wall to wall. You decide the layout, the storage and the colour with us before anything is built in our workshop. If your home has a kitchen island with room around it and a painted kitchen in a colour you choose, kitchens made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.

Narrow hallways in Victorian and Edwardian terraces set limits on how long a cabinet or panel can be. A large share of the homes around Tulse Hill date from before 1919, so the route to the kitchen is measured at the measuring visit. Long runs are made in sections and joined on site.

A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It describes the kitchen we’ve designed for the room, its materials and its finish.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Ready-made ranges rarely include a larder or dresser that fits a particular alcove. Bespoke joinery can be made for the exact space, painted to match the rest of the kitchen. Ready-made units stop well short of a tall period ceiling, wasting space that could hold things you rarely use. Built-in pieces can run to the cornice or the picture rail.

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.

Why us?

  • Saturday visits and fitting by prior arrangement
  • We visit, measure and go through the design before we quote
  • Every London borough and the City of London covered
  • Built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood

What happens on fitting day

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, especially in a controlled parking zone, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room and how you cook.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and plan the cabinets around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose.
  3. A quote in writing follows for the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.

Advice

What affects the cost of bespoke kitchens

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. This is what makes the difference:

  • How square the room is
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension

In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. It helps to talk about parking at the measuring visit, so it can be planned.

Before the design visit

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It is useful to include:

  • Your postcode and the borough
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, use our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Questions we’re often asked

I live near Tulse Hill station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Lambeth and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Tulse Hill?

Yes, we work across Lambeth, Tulse Hill included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Not normally. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first.

Is there room for an island in my kitchen?

If there is enough room, yes. An island needs clear floor around it to open doors and move about, and we measure for it at the measuring visit. If the room is narrow, we will suggest other layouts.

What happens when you come to measure?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a quote in writing.

Can you fit a kitchen in a room with uneven walls?

Yes, it is something we deal with all the time. Walls in older homes are rarely flat and floors often slope, so every cabinet is scribed and levelled.

Tulse Hill homes and bespoke kitchens

In the streets around Tulse Hill, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 46%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 23%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Tulse Hill, Historic England’s list includes Christ Church (Grade I), about 0.5 miles west, and Church of All Saints (Grade I), about 0.6 miles south-east. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. Vans bringing furniture to Tulse Hill fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Parking and access are planned during the design visit.

For an older house near Holy Trinity Church, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. Kingswood House, about 1.6 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.

Do you need bespoke kitchens in Tulse Hill?

Often the call comes after building work has opened up the space. A new layout deserves a kitchen designed for it. The building work itself is for your builder.

Bespoke kitchens can help with:

  • Making the most of a galley kitchen
  • A kitchen planned around your appliances
  • Extra cupboard space
  • A painted dresser for the kitchen

Living in a block of flats near Tulse Hill station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Real projects you can actually look at
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • Whether the route into your home has been checked
  • Will the quote be in writing?

Flats, leases and landlords

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it at the measuring visit.

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We cannot give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
