Fitted wardrobes across SW2: what to expect
The inside matters as much as the doors. We plan the mix of long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers around your clothes, so coats and dresses have room and shirts don’t waste height. It’s useful to think about what you wear most before we meet. Most enquiries start with gaps above and around standalone wardrobes and storage boxes stacked under the bed; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard.
- You describe the bedroom and the storage you need. A rough sketch of the room helps if you have one.
- We come to measure and talk through hanging heights, doors and drawers, with your clothes in mind.
- We put the design, materials and finish into a written quote.
- We then make the wardrobes in our workshop.
- The wardrobes are fitted in your home, ready to use.
How our quotes work
There’s no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
What’s near Brixton
The streets we cover here include those near Trinity Congregational Church, Trinity Academy and Sudbourne Primary School and the streets around them. You’ll also find Trinity Academy (less than half a mile south-west), Trinity Arms (a few minutes’ walk north) and Max Roach Park (0.7 miles north). There is a railway station in Brixton itself: Brixton station. Well-known places in the area include Dulwich Community Hospital (1.6 miles east). Open spaces near Brixton include Knight's Hill.
Fitted wardrobes for homes across SW2
From Streatham, Herne Hill and Brixton to the quieter streets, bedrooms across SW2 range from box rooms to large rooms with bays. Fitted wardrobes are made for the room you have, using the full height where it helps. The inside layout is planned around your things.
The biggest shares of homes in SW2 were built before 1919 (about 51%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 17%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. More than half of the homes in SW2 (about 51%) were built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Older bedrooms normally have alcoves and tall ceilings, both of which fitted wardrobes can use. Flats in converted or shared houses account for about 26% of households in the SW2 postcode district, based on Census 2021. In a converted house, rooms can be odd shapes, with new partitions meeting old walls, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before anything is fixed to the walls.
Our area covers the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City, SW2 included. Every job starts the same way, with a design visit to measure and discuss the design.
Brixton: For families living near Sudbourne Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. The wider area includes historic houses like Kingswood House, about 2.4 miles south-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t normally do that in an older room.
What it costs
Not every room costs the same, and it comes down to:
- Parking and unloading on your street
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- The width and height of the space
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, and the quote follows.
Before the design visit
To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- How you want to use the space
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it is worth raising at the measuring visit.
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Tell us about it when you get in touch.
Materials and finishes
Doors and drawer fronts
Doors can be plain, panelled or shaped to suit the room. They’re painted to match or contrast with the walls.
Spray-painted finish
Spraying in the workshop means the doors come to your home finished. Give the paint time to cure fully.
Where other trades come in
We’re carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:
- Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
- Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
- Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
Common questions about fitted wardrobes
Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We’ll design around them.
What can go inside a fitted wardrobe?
We plan it with you at the design visit, based on what you wear and how much of it there is. Adjustable shelves keep some flexibility for later.
Do you cover areas outside London?
No. We work in London and nowhere else.
Which boards do you build with?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. MDF is stable and takes paint well, while birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, and the quote says which is used where.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you have chosen.
Where is the furniture made?
Everything is made in our workshop for your room, then fitted in your home. It’s built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
