Clapham Park Bespoke Kitchens
Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on bespoke kitchens in Clapham Park starts with a design visit, and everything is built in our workshop.
- Spaces sized for your oven and fridge
- More storage in a small kitchen
- A larder for food and small appliances

About our bespoke kitchens in Clapham Park
Kitchens in period houses bring their own challenges. Few walls are flat, and floors often fall away from the walls, sometimes noticeably over a single run of units. We scribe the cabinets to the walls and set them level on adjustable feet or a plinth giving a level line for the worktop you choose. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the things people most often want solved are spaces sized for your oven and fridge and open shelves with cupboards below.
Older homes usually have generous ceiling heights, and a large share of the homes around Clapham Park date from then. Kitchen cabinets can go higher, with tall larders and top cupboards for occasional things. Cabinets are made from moisture-resistant MDF or birch plywood, with the finish agreed in your quote.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Clapham Park
I live near Clapham High Street station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Lambeth and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Does a conservation area in or near Clapham Park affect fitted furniture?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a quote in writing follows.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it, and it is agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.
What materials do you use for kitchens?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray painting or hand painting. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?
We plan the kitchen around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose. It helps to choose them before the design is final, and your quote sets out what’s included.
Caring for painted furniture
New paint needs time to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. After that, a few simple habits help:
- Measure the route into the kitchen
- Know your appliance sizes early
- Allow space to walk round an island
- Mention any parking or lift rules
Doors are hung and adjusted when we fit them. Houses move a little with the seasons, so hinges allow small adjustments later.
Choose your appliances before the design is finalised. We size the spaces around them, and changing them later can mean changing the units.
What happens on fitting day
You will not need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day in an older house, the main job is scribing to walls and levelling on floors that slope, so each piece is trimmed and adjusted on site. Floors are protected, and dust is kept down as far as possible. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, as terraced streets are often busy.
- You contact us about a bespoke kitchen.
- We visit to measure and talk through the layout and the finish, spray-painted or hand-painted.
- Your written quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
- The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and a spray finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
- We fit the cabinets in your home; a hand-painted finish is applied on site and is easy to touch up later.
- Treat new paint gently while it cures; the plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your own plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.
How to prepare
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
Ask for a quote
It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, especially with rough measurements. To send them over, message us from the contact page, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

What affects the cost of bespoke kitchens
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- How big the furniture is
- The internal fittings
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside during the design visit, and the quote follows.
Before the design visit
Some details help us understand the job before we visit. It’s useful to include:
- What the furniture needs to hold
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Your postcode and the borough
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
To make a start, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us a little about the room. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a written quote follows.
What we don’t do
It is useful to know what’s outside our work before you plan:
- Electrics, sockets and lighting (your electrician)
- Painting the walls around the kitchen
- Structural changes to the room
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can drop us a line using the contact form and we will give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.
What goes into it
- Spray-painted finish
- Larders and dressers
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Hand-painted finish
- Islands where space allows
- Birch plywood
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Ready-made units are made to fixed sizes, so most layouts end in a filler panel. Bespoke cabinets are made to the room’s real sizes from wall to wall. Alcoves and recesses in period houses are rarely a standard width or depth, so off-the-shelf pieces either don’t fit or leave a gap either side. Furniture made for the space fills it.
Rooms that are not square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That’s reflected in the quote.
Why choose us
- More than 300 projects completed
- Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
- Edges scribed to follow your walls
- Designed for the room you have
