Hand-painted finish

Hand painting can be done in your home, once the kitchen is fitted. It’s easy to touch up later.

Birch plywood

We use birch plywood where strength matters, which matters in drawers and shelves that carry weight. The edge can be left on show or painted.

Many people want a tall larder for food, tins and small appliances. A larder can have shelves, deep drawers and racks, planned around what you store. In an alcove or at the end of a run, it can use space that would otherwise be wasted. If you’re living with extra cupboard space and making the most of a galley kitchen, kitchens made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Purpose-built flats are home to most households around Loughborough Junction, and in a flat, the kitchen is often small or open to the living space. A bespoke kitchen can use the full width and height of the walls. Everything is built in sections that fit the route into the flat.

You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Tell us about it when you get in touch.

Fitting day, step by step

Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, then checked again. The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a block without a lift, every section goes up the stairs, so it is sized to be manageable. The stair turns and landings set the limit. The pieces are assembled in the flat.

  1. First, you tell us about the room. Say a little about the way you cook.
  2. We visit, measure and talk through the layout, larder, dresser or island, where space allows.
  3. You receive a quote in writing, setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The cabinets are fitted in your home, with plumbing, gas and electrics by your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician. It is useful to have those trades booked in good time.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Loughborough Junction

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Loughborough Junction?

It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

My home in Loughborough Junction is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. Kitchens are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Do you supply the worktop and appliances?

The cabinets are designed for the worktop, sink and appliances you have picked. Knowing their sizes early helps, and the quote confirms what’s included.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

How much time does fitting need?

How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We will talk it through at the measuring visit.

Honest limits

Not everything around bespoke kitchens is carpentry, from an electrician to a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here’s what to know:

  • Making good walls and ceilings
  • Gas work, which is for a Gas Safe registered engineer
  • Plumbing, which is for your plumber

Not sure whether your space suits bespoke kitchens? You can send us a few details through our contact form and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What goes into it

  • Birch plywood
  • Larders and dressers
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Islands where space allows
  • Hand-painted finish

Do you need bespoke kitchens in Loughborough Junction?

In many older homes, ready-made units struggle with lean and slope. Cabinets end up with gaps or tilted lines, and a bespoke kitchen is scribed and levelled to avoid that.

These come up often when people first get in touch:

  • Open shelves with cupboards below
  • Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
  • Making the most of a galley kitchen
  • A pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers

If your home is one of the older houses near St Matthew's Camberwell, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • A quote in writing that sets out the job
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • How parking will work on your street
