Bespoke Kitchens in St Giles

In St Giles, we design bespoke kitchens around the room you actually have. Your kitchen is designed at a visit to your home and built in our workshop.

Bespoke kitchens in St Giles

Our bespoke kitchens are fitted in St Giles and all over London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and planning the layout, then a quote in writing. Once agreed, the kitchen is made in our workshop and fitted in your home. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Most enquiries start with a kitchen planned around your appliances and a kitchen that fits an uneven room; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Older homes normally have generous ceiling heights, and a large share of the homes around St Giles date from then. That suits tall larder cupboards and wall cabinets taken up to the ceiling. Cabinets are made from moisture-resistant MDF or birch plywood, with the finish agreed in your quote.

Our quotes are written in plain words. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished.

Made-to-measure kitchens or ready-made?

Ready-made kitchens are widely available and often cheaper, and in a square modern room they can work well. In an older house with uneven walls, they tend to need filler panels and leave gaps. A bespoke kitchen costs more but is made for the room. Ready-made units stop well short of a tall period ceiling, wasting space that could hold things you rarely use. Fitted furniture can go all the way up.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Questions from St Giles

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in St Giles?

Yes, we work across Camden, St Giles included, and across the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

I live in a flat in St Giles. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

How long will the kitchen take to fit?

Every kitchen is different. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you can plan your other trades around it.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Not usually. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by prior arrangement. Let us know when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.

Where other trades come in

We design, make and fit the furniture. In practice, that means:

  • Connecting sinks, taps and dishwashers
  • Plastering, tiling or decorating
  • Any work on the gas supply

Not sure whether your space suits bespoke kitchens? You can fill in our short enquiry form and we will tell you. How it works.

How fitting day works

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, especially in a controlled parking zone, so it helps to tell us at the design visit what’s outside. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturday fitting can be arranged.

  1. You contact us about a bespoke kitchen.
  2. We visit to measure and discuss the layout and the finish, spray-painted or hand-painted.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. We make the kitchen in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF, which suits kitchens and takes paint well, and birch plywood.
  5. The kitchen is fitted and scribed to the walls, with any hand painting done in the room.
  6. Treat new paint gently while it cures; the plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your own plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Empty the space we will be working in

Advice

Made-to-measure kitchens in St Giles

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around St Giles were built before 1919 (about 49%) and since 2000 (about 21%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Within a mile of the centre of St Giles, 31 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. More than a third of the homes in the streets around St Giles (about 49%) were built before 1919, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Kitchens in houses of that age often sit in a narrow back addition, with walls and floors that aren’t true, so each cabinet is levelled and scribed on site.

If you live near St Anne's Churchyard, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. The wider area includes historic houses such as Benjamin Franklin House, about 0.5 miles south. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

Is it time for bespoke kitchens?

An extension or a knocked-through room is a common starting point. A new room needs a kitchen planned for its shape and light. The building work itself is for your builder.

Here are some of the needs we’re asked about most:

  • Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
  • Spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets
  • Making the most of a galley kitchen
  • An island where space allows

For an older house near Soho Baptist Chapel, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
