Bespoke kitchens in Seven Dials: what you get
We’re carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets, while other trades handle the services. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by a Gas Safe engineer and electrics by your electrician, so the design allows for pipes, cables and connections. People typically come to us about cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls and a kitchen planned around your appliances, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
An older kitchen often has a sash window and a back door, which fix where things can go. With a large share of the homes around Seven Dials built before 1919, the layout is drawn around those fixed points. Your plumber connects the sink where the design puts it. The worktop, sink and appliances are your choice.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Questions we are often asked
Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Seven Dials?
Yes. Seven Dials is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Camden and London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Seven Dials?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Do I need the building owner’s consent?
Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on your lease, so check it or ask your managing agent.
Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?
The worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose, and we design the cabinets around them. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need someone to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. A small galley and a large kitchen with a larder and island are very different jobs, so we quote once we have measured. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
What it costs
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:
- The overall size of the piece
- Parking and unloading on your street
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.
What we need to know
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Your postcode and the borough
For a quote for bespoke kitchens in Seven Dials, tell us about the room on our contact form. Let us know which room it is and roughly what you have in mind. Next comes a design visit, followed by a written quote.
Flats, conversions and lettings
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so each section is sized to get through.
Could you do it yourself?
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s easy to buy.
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot usually do that in an older room.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens
You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving everything tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors and stair carpets are protected on the way in and out.
- First, you let us know about the room. Say a little about the way you cook.
- The design visit covers measuring and planning the layout.
- A quote in writing is sent to you.
- Everything is made in our workshop.
- The cabinets are fitted in your home, with plumbing, gas and electrics by your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.
Preparing the room
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Let us know about parking near your home
Arranging a design visit
The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A written quote follows the visit for you to look over. To book one, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Advice
Bespoke kitchens in Seven Dials: local notes
In the streets around Seven Dials, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 49%) and the years since 2000 (about 21%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Part of Seven Dials is in the Seven Dials (Covent Garden) Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you are unsure. Purpose-built flats are home to about 78% of households in the streets around Seven Dials, according to Census 2021. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.
If you live near St Anne's Churchyard, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen. Benjamin Franklin House, about 0.4 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. If you live in a period home close to Soho Baptist Chapel, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.
