Flats, leases and landlords
Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls at the design visit.
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through.
How we make bespoke kitchens for North End
Moisture-resistant MDF suits kitchens well, because it copes with a room that gets steamy. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well. Cabinets are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in colours agreed with you. Most enquiries start with a painted dresser for the kitchen and a painted kitchen in a colour you choose, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
In a house built before 1919, a wall that looks solid may be lath and plaster. Since a large share of homes around North End are that old, we check each wall before wall cabinets are planned. If a wall cannot take wall cabinets, tall larders or a dresser standing on the floor can do the job.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens
You will not need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed during the design visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Terraced streets in London are often lined with parked cars, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturdays are possible by arrangement.
- It starts with a short note from you about the room.
- We visit to plan the layout and check how the cabinets will get into the room.
- A quote in writing follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish.
- The cabinets are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to come in through your doors.
- We carry everything in and fit the cabinets, while your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics.
Before fitting day
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
Arranging a design visit
The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

North End homes and bespoke kitchens
The biggest shares of homes in the area around North End were built before 1919 (about 52%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 17%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. North End is partly covered by the Hampstead Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. Where a home in North End is on or beside a main road, it’s useful to mention that at the design visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.
Close to Childs Hill Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as The Hill Garden Central Temple Summerhouse, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. For an older house near Church of St Alban the Martyr, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.
North End is in the London Borough of Camden, about 4 miles south-east of St Pancras. We design and make bespoke kitchens for homes in North End and across Camden, as part of our work in every London borough. We cover places right across Camden, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.
Design visits and fitting in NW3, NW11 and N2 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Streets in the area include Sandy Road, Park Avenue and Platt's Lane, and we cover homes on all of them for bespoke kitchens. North End sits close to the A502. If your home is on one of them, tell us at the design visit, as some main roads have strict stopping rules. Close by, we also work in Vale of Health (1 mile south-east), Childs Hill (1 mile south-west), Golders Green (1 mile north-west), Greenhill (1 mile south) and West Hampstead (1 mile south). Elsewhere in Camden, we also cover St Pancras (4 miles south-east), West End (4 miles south-east), St Giles (4 miles south-east), Seven Dials (4 miles south-east), Holborn (4 miles south-east) and Bloomsbury (4 miles south-east).

Flat-pack or bespoke?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
Questions we’re often asked
Is North End in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?
Yes, North End is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Camden and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
My house in North End is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?
Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
Should I send photos?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. It’s useful to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
Can I have a kitchen island?
If the room is big enough, yes. At the design visit we check the clearances around it, and suggest another layout if it would crowd the room.
