Bespoke kitchens for homes in Widmore

We make the cabinets; the worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose. Knowing the appliance sizes early lets us leave the right spaces, so everything fits as it should. Your quote sets out the materials and finish. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a painted kitchen in a colour you choose and a kitchen planned around your appliances.

In a part of London with mixed housing, like much of the city, no two kitchens have quite the same walls and floors. Every cabinet is levelled and scribed so the lines run straight. Moisture-resistant MDF suits a kitchen, and the finish is agreed in your quote.

The furniture is made in our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

What affects the cost of bespoke kitchens

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:

  • Parking near your home
  • How big the furniture is
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room

How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

What to send when you contact us

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • What the furniture needs to hold

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you don’t, that is fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Questions from Widmore

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Widmore?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to let us know about parking during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Bickley station?

Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Can you build an island in my kitchen?

Yes, where there’s space. At the design visit we check the clearances around it, and suggest another layout if it would crowd the room.

Do you supply the worktop and appliances?

We plan the kitchen around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose. It is useful to choose them before the design is final, and your quote sets out what’s included.

Can you fit a kitchen in a room with uneven walls?

Yes. We scribe each cabinet to the wall and set it level on adjustable feet or a plinth, to give a level line for the worktop. It’s one of the main reasons people choose bespoke in an older house.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, after measuring the route at the design visit.

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it is worth raising at the design visit.

Bespoke kitchens for homes in Widmore

Homes built before 1919 make up about 33% of the housing in the area around Widmore, with about 25% built between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of Widmore, Historic England’s list includes Church of St George (Grade II), under half a mile north-east, and Bickley Court (Grade II), under half a mile north. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Terraced houses are home to about 30% of households in the neighbourhood around Widmore, according to Census 2021. Kitchens in London terraces are often narrow, sometimes in a back addition, which suits cabinets made to the exact width.

For families living near Bullers Wood School for Boys, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer. If you live near Jubilee Country Park, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. The wider area includes historic houses like Bromley Palace, about 1.1 miles west. For a period home anywhere nearby, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.

Widmore is about 3 miles south-east of Orpington, in the London Borough of Bromley. We design and make bespoke kitchens for homes in Widmore and across Bromley. Across Bromley, we cover Widmore and the places around it.

Other landmarks nearby include Bethlem Museum of the Mind (1.5 miles south-west) and The Mall (1.3 miles west). Not far away are Summer Hill.

Honest limits

As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. It is useful to know these before you plan the job:

  • Knocking through or rebuilding walls
  • Moving water or waste pipes
  • New sockets or circuits

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can drop us a line using the contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Looking after your furniture

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:

  • Mention any parking or lift rules
  • Check there’s room around an island before planning one
  • Treat new paintwork gently at first
  • Deal with damp walls first

Use the cooker hood or open a window when cooking, to keep steam off the cabinets. Ventilation helps the whole kitchen.

Choose your appliances before the design is finalised. We size the spaces around them, and changing them later can mean changing the units.

What happens on fitting day

In older rooms, the furniture normally has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Fitting day means joining the sections, fitting them to the walls and setting them level. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether brick, block, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room and how you cook.
  2. We visit to measure the room and go through the layout, the storage and where the appliances will sit.
  3. You receive a written quote for the kitchen cabinets. Plumbing, gas and electrics are not part of it: those are for your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.
  4. The cabinets are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.

Preparing the room

  • Tell us about parking near your home
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time

Arranging a design visit

It helps to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, especially with rough sizes. To send them over, use our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
