About our fitted cupboards in Hoxton
Landings often have a corner or a stretch of wall that does nothing. We can turn it into a linen cupboard, or storage for bedding and spare towels, with shelves set at the heights you choose. The doors are planned so they open cleanly on a narrow landing. People normally come to us about floor-to-ceiling storage in a flat and boxing in a boiler with room for servicing; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Many homes around Hoxton have been built since 2000, and newer homes rarely come with much storage. Fitted storage can turn a hallway recess, a landing or the space under the stairs into somewhere useful. Plasterboard stud walls are common, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

How fitting works for fitted cupboards
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. How long the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer homes often have finished floors, painted walls and new doors that mark easily, so everything on the way in is covered before the sections arrive. Door frames and corners get covers too. The sections are assembled in the room.
- To begin, get in touch through our contact form; a brief note on the space and anything in it that needs access is plenty.
- We visit to measure and plan the cupboard so meters, fuse boards and any boiler stay easy to reach. Boiler work itself is for a Gas Safe engineer.
- A quote in writing follows with the design, materials and finish.
- The cupboards are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with the access planned in.
- We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
How to get a quote
A quote begins with some details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, use our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.
Advice
When is bespoke worth it?
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.
Tips worth knowing
People planning fitted cupboards often ask about these. They help before and after fitting:
- Treat new paintwork gently at first
- Have damp sorted before fitting
- List what you want to store before the design visit
- Leave room in front of the meters
Keep the way to the meters and fuse board clear. Avoid packing things in front of the meters, so they can be reached without a struggle.
If there is damp on a wall, have it sorted before we fit. Damp behind a cupboard can lead to mould, particularly on a colder external wall. Ventilation inside the cupboard helps too.
What it costs
Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Parking near your home
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
What we need to know
Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
- Your postcode and the borough
- Examples of the look you are after
- The type of home and how the room is reached
You do not need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

Fitted cupboards in Hoxton: local notes
About 36% of the homes in the streets around Hoxton went up since 2000, and about 26% between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Hoxton include Church of St Columba (Grade I), under half a mile east, and St Columba's Vicarage (Grade I), less than half a mile east. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character can require listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Hoxton is covered by it. How the van gets to your door is planned at the measuring visit.
If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Anne with St Columba, a shallow cupboard in a narrow hall can hold coats without blocking the way. If you live near Shoreditch Park, fitted cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. Mansion House, about 1.4 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a landing recess can take a linen cupboard built to its exact size.
Hoxton is about 1 mile south-east of Shoreditch, within the London Borough of Hackney. From period terraces to newer flats in Hoxton, we measure the room as it is and design around it. In Hackney, Hoxton is one of the places we cover, and the borough has 20 places on our list.

Your questions about fitted cupboards in Hoxton
Do you make fitted cupboards for homes in Hoxton?
Yes, Hoxton is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Hackney and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, and then we send a quote.
Will a conservation area stop me having fitted cupboards fitted in Hoxton?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
What are your cupboards made from?
Moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, and birch plywood where strength matters. We spray paint in the workshop or hand paint, in the colour agreed with you.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
The furniture is built in sections, sized for the route as well as the room. That’s why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways at the measuring visit.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.
Can a fitted cupboard cover the meters and fuse board?
Yes. We can build a cupboard that hides them neatly and still leaves them reachable. Moving them is not our work, as that’s a job for your supplier or electrician.
