Fitted cupboards designed for your room

What happens on fitting day

With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long the fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Newer homes often have finished floors, painted walls and new doors that mark easily, so we protect the route before carrying anything in. Corners and door frames are covered as well. The sections are assembled in the room.

  1. You let us know where the cupboards should go.
  2. We visit to measure up and go through the design.
  3. You receive a written quote covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. We make the cupboards in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cupboards and trim the edges to follow the walls and ceiling.
  6. Your finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site; go gently with it at first while it cures.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

Fitted cupboards for homes in Shoreditch

We make our cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, chosen for the job each part does. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits shelves and drawer boxes. We finish them by spray painting in the workshop or by hand painting, in a colour agreed with you. Typical reasons to get in touch are a hallway cupboard for coats and shoes and cupboards that suit a period house, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

Many homes around Shoreditch have been built since 2000, and newer homes often have little built-in storage. Halls, landings and the space beneath the stairs are where fitted storage can help. Plasterboard stud walls are common, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board.

The furniture is built in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

Storage in Shoreditch homes: local notes

About 39% of the homes in the area around Shoreditch went up since 2000, and about 28% between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Shoreditch is partly covered by the South Shoreditch Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. Purpose-built flats are more common around Shoreditch than across Hackney: about 83% of households, against about 60%, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. So the route in, from stairs to lifts, is part of the design.

If your home is one of the older houses near St Leonard's Church, a landing recess can take a linen cupboard built to its exact size. For a flat near Shoreditch High Street station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

It’s worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

The problems fitted cupboards solve

Others want their cupboards to match the rest of the house. We can design doors that suit the style of the house, so the cupboard looks as if it belongs.

People usually get in touch with us about needs like these:

  • Space for laundry, cleaning things and boots
  • Storage for towels and bedding
  • Storage in a corner nothing else fits
  • Hiding meters and a fuse board neatly

If you live near Artillery Ground, fitted cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Will the quote be in writing?
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

Bespoke fitted cupboards or ready-made?

You can put together a flat-pack cupboard yourself, and that’s a real advantage. A fitted cupboard needs a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, and in return the cupboard is built for your home. Ready-made units fixed to stud walls are often held by fixings that do not suit the board. Built-in pieces are designed with the right fixings from the start.

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.

Why choose us

  • Built in our workshop and fitted in your home
  • Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • We work across all London boroughs
  • Saturday work by arrangement

What we do not do

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:

  • Any gas work around the boiler
  • Relocating meters or the fuse board
  • Wiring for lights or sockets

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can drop us a line using the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Common questions about fitted cupboards

My home in Shoreditch is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

I live near Shoreditch High Street station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Hackney and the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you, and it is set out in the quote.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

Can you build a cupboard around a boiler?

Yes, provided the cupboard keeps to the boiler maker’s instructions. We plan the space and ventilation around it and make sure an engineer can reach it.

What are the cupboards made of?

Our cupboards are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray painted or hand painted. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
