Questions we are often asked

How do you fit fitted cupboards in a flat in Primrose Hill?

We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Do you cover homes near Kentish Town West station?

Yes, homes across Camden and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can I send photos before the visit?

Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you message us from the contact page.

Can you build a cupboard over the fuse board and meters?

Yes, and we keep them easy to reach. Engineers and meter readers will need access, so we design doors or removable panels for that.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps, which helps avoid condensation and mould. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

Who chooses the colour?

You do. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.

Fitted cupboards for homes in Primrose Hill

We fit fitted cupboards in Primrose Hill and across London. We begin with a design visit to measure and go through the design, followed by a quote in writing. Once agreed, we make the cupboards in our workshop and fit them in your home. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you will know before we start. Typical reasons to get in touch are cupboards that suit a period house and tidying away the gas and electricity meters, and the answer is made at our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Around Primrose Hill, most households live in purpose-built flats, and many blocks have rules on lift booking, deliveries and working hours. Checking with the managing agent early makes the day smoother. A lease can require consent for fixing to walls, so check yours first.

If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we will tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Bespoke fitted cupboards or ready-made?

Standard cupboards come in set widths and heights, and the space around them is often wasted. Ours are built to the full width and height you choose, so less space goes to waste. Standard furniture sizes rarely suit the shape of a flat, so it can waste space or block a door or radiator. Built-in pieces are designed around them.

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside at the design visit, and the quote follows.

Why choose us

  • Designed for the room you have
  • A spray or hand-painted finish
  • Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • More than 300 projects completed

Looking after your furniture

These points come up often when people plan fitted cupboards. They’re worth knowing whatever the room:

  • Do not store things against the boiler
  • Treat new paintwork gently at first
  • Measure the route into the room not just the room
  • Check your lease if you live in a flat

Your needs may change once the cupboards are in use. Where we’ve fitted adjustable shelves, you can move them as needed, so the space keeps working.

At the design visit, let us know how parking and access work. Many London streets are in controlled parking zones and some blocks need lifts or deliveries booked ahead.

Where other trades come in

We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:

  • Wiring for lights or sockets
  • Work on a boiler, which is for a Gas Safe engineer
  • Building work or structural changes

Not sure whether your space suits fitted cupboards? You can get in touch through our contact form and we’ll tell you. Our process from visit to fitting.

What it is made from

  • Ventilated doors
  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Adjustable shelves
  • Moisture-resistant MDF

Could you do it yourself?

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

How fitting day works

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed during the design visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Many blocks have entry systems, concierge desks or rules on booking the lift, so it’s worth checking with the managing agent ahead of time. Communal areas and floors are protected on the way in.

  1. You get in touch and describe the space.
  2. We visit to measure the space and the route in from the street, including the stairs and doorways. It helps to tell us about parking then, as a van normally needs a permit or a paid bay in a controlled parking zone.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The cupboards are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route.
  5. The sections are carried in, joined and set level. The finish is sprayed before fitting or painted by hand on site.

How to prepare

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
