Bespoke kitchens for homes in Shoreditch
A bespoke kitchen is built around the room you have. Each cabinet is made to the real measurements of your walls, floor and ceiling, so the runs fit neatly from wall to wall. You decide the layout, the storage and the colour with us, and the kitchen is made at our workshop before it’s fitted. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a painted dresser for the kitchen and a kitchen island with room around it.
Many homes around Shoreditch were built since 2000, and a newer home’s original kitchen may not suit how you cook and live. A bespoke kitchen can replace the original with cabinets made for your room, built around your chosen worktop, sink and appliances. Gas, plumbing and electrics are for the right trades.
If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s quick to buy.
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.
Shoreditch homes and bespoke kitchens
About 39% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Shoreditch went up since 2000, and about 28% between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Within a mile of the centre of Shoreditch, 30 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones run by the boroughs. So a van fitting furniture in Shoreditch normally needs a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension arranged through the council. We ask about parking during the design visit, so the van can be planned for.
For families living near Virginia Primary School, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer. If you live in a period home close to St Leonard's Church, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. The wider area includes historic houses like Mansion House, about 1 mile south-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.
Shoreditch is within the London Borough of Hackney. Anywhere in Shoreditch, the process is the same: we visit and measure, send a quote in writing, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. We list Shoreditch among 20 places we cover in Hackney.
In E1, E2 and N1, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. We cover homes on streets such as New Road, Moor Lane and City Road, whether you want bespoke kitchens or another piece made for the room. The A1 and A10 run close to Shoreditch; on busy main roads, unloading kitchens takes a little planning. Neighbouring places we cover for bespoke kitchens include Haggerston (1 mile north), Hoxton (1 mile north-west), St Luke's (1 mile west), Spitalfields (1 mile south) and Finsbury (1 mile west). Elsewhere in Hackney, we also cover Homerton (2 miles north-east), West Hackney (2 miles north), Hackney (2 miles north-east), Lower Clapton (2 miles north-east), Stoke Newington (3 miles north) and Shacklewell (2 miles north). Being one of the larger places in Hackney, Shoreditch is covered for all of our fitted furniture.
Near you in Shoreditch

You’ll also find St Mary-at-Hill (1.1 miles south) and Bishopsgate Institute Special Collections and Archives (0.5 miles south). There is a railway station in Shoreditch itself: Shoreditch High Street station. Well-known places in the area include Dennis Severs' House (a few minutes’ walk south) and Tower of London (1.2 miles south). Not far away are Tower Hill.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Many off-the-shelf kitchens use chipboard carcasses with a printed or wrapped finish. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, painted in colours you choose, finished to suit the room. Rooms in newer homes are often compact, and standard depths can take too much floor, while fitted furniture can be made shallower where space is tight. It can still go to the ceiling.
Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Flats, leases and landlords
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route during the design visit.
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Tell us about them at the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
What happens on fitting day
When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections built in our workshop come in next, a piece at a time. How long the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Newer blocks often have concierge desks, entry systems and rules on lift booking, so check them with the managing agent before fitting day. Kitchens are made in sections sized for the lift and doors.
- You get in touch and tell us about the room and how you cook.
- At the design visit we measure up and plan the cabinets around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose.
- A quote in writing follows for the cabinets, materials and finish. Plumbing, gas and electrics aren’t part of it: those are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.
- The cabinets are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the cabinets in your home, working around your plumber, your electrician and a Gas Safe engineer.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway

Rough measurements are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form and let us know about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Shoreditch
My home in Shoreditch is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Shoreditch?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and the cabinets are made to suit them. Your quote sets out what’s included.
Will you connect the sink and appliances?
No, that work is for other trades. Your plumber connects the sink and dishwasher, a Gas Safe engineer handles any gas, and your electrician does the wiring, while we make and fit the cabinets.
What materials do you use for kitchens?
Moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, and birch plywood where strength matters. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in colours agreed with you.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not usually. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
