Fitted cupboards in St Ann's: what you get
A fitted cupboard is built for one space and nowhere else. It runs from the floor to the ceiling, or to whatever height suits the spot, and it’s trimmed to the walls so there are no awkward gaps. We fit them in hallways, on landings, in utility and boot rooms and in alcoves. The inside is planned around what you need to keep there. Typical reasons to get in touch are cupboards that suit a period house and a utility room with proper storage; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Original features like shutters, cupboard doors and panelling are worth keeping where they survive. With a large share of the homes around St Ann's built before 1919, fitted storage can be designed to sit alongside them. Door styles can be chosen to suit the age of the house. For a listed home, fixing into original joinery can need consent, so check first.
The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the fitted cupboard designed for your room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and it is what the workshop builds to.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?
You can put together a flat-pack cupboard yourself, and that’s a real advantage. Ours takes more planning: a design visit, a quote, making and fitting, but it is built around your space. The two recesses beside a chimney breast are seldom an identical size, and standard units bought as a pair rarely suit both. Fitted furniture is made to each one separately.
Tricky rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, which we write after seeing the room.

Fitting day, step by step
Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Scribing is done on site, which means some cutting in the room or close by, so we ask for a clear space to work near the room. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Hand painting, if that is your finish, can follow the fitting.

Your questions about fitted cupboards in St Ann's
My home in St Ann's is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Can you fit fitted cupboards to the uneven walls of an older house in St Ann's?
Yes, that’s normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.
Can you hide my gas and electricity meters?
Yes. A cupboard can tidy them away without getting in the way of access. Moving them is not our work; that is for your supplier or an electrician.
Can you box in my boiler with a fitted cupboard?
Yes, as long as the design respects the boiler’s instructions. We allow for the clearances and ventilation it needs and make sure an engineer can reach it.
How long does fitting take?
Every job is different. How long fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch.
Could you do it yourself?
The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s easy to buy.
Where other trades come in
It helps to know what’s outside our work before you plan:
- Connecting appliances to water or waste
- Plastering, decorating or repairs to the walls
- New sockets, lighting or wiring (your electrician)
