About our fitted wardrobes in St Ann's

You can choose hinged or sliding doors. With hinged doors, you see a full section when you open them, but they need clear space in front to swing. Sliding doors suit tighter rooms, although only part of the wardrobe is open at a time. We weigh them up with you at the design visit. People normally come to us about no space in front for doors to swing and clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

In streets where many homes were built before 1919, as they were around St Ann's, plenty of bedrooms have solid brick external walls. Cold external walls can lead to condensation, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture is part of the design. Smaller back bedrooms in houses of that age are good places for fitted wardrobes.

Our quotes are written in plain words. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished.

Bespoke fitted wardrobes or ready-made?

Off-the-shelf wardrobes come in standard heights and widths, which leaves gaps above and beside them. A fitted wardrobe fills the space wall to wall and up to the ceiling. Ready-made units stop well short of a tall period ceiling, and that space collects dust instead of storage. Built-in pieces can run to the cornice or the picture rail.

Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, and that is part of the price. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.

When is bespoke worth it?

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

What happens on fitting day

Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day, edges are trimmed on site to follow the walls, so a clear area to work in near the room helps. We keep dust down and tidy as we go. Where the finish is hand-painted, it can be done after the pieces are in.

  1. You get in touch and tell us what you keep in your wardrobes now.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the inside with you, from rail heights to drawer depths.
  3. A quote in writing follows, listing the layout inside, the doors and the finish.
  4. The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for the rails, shelves and drawers you chose.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted in your home, spray-painted in the workshop or hand-painted on site, and the inside fittings go in last.

Advice

Bedroom storage in St Ann's

Homes built before 1919 make up about 54% of the housing in the streets around St Ann's, with about 17% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. 5 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of St Ann's. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If your home is on or just off a main road, it is useful to mention it. We’ll plan where the van can stop.

Close to Chestnuts Park? Keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. Bruce Castle, about 1.3 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

St Ann's is within the London Borough of Haringey, about 1 mile north-east of Tottenham. Wherever you are in St Ann's, the process is the same: we visit and measure, send a quote in writing, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. We cover places right across Haringey.

Do you need fitted wardrobes in St Ann's?

Couples often want storage that works for two. A fitted wardrobe can be planned with separate sections, each with the rails, shelves and drawers its owner needs.

Fitted wardrobes can help with:

  • Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall
  • Standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall
  • A sloping ceiling that’s hard to use
  • Not enough hanging space

For a family home near St Ann's CE Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • Real projects you can actually look at
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • Have they thought about parking near you?

Boards, parts and paint

Hand-painted finish

A hand-painted finish often suits wardrobes in older houses. The colour is agreed with you, and touch-ups are straightforward.

Doors and drawer fronts

Drawer fronts can sit behind the doors or on the outside. Internal drawers keep a clean run of doors.

Questions from St Ann's

Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in St Ann's?

Yes. We cover all of Haringey and the rest of London, and St Ann's is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in St Ann's?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

Can you fit wardrobes under a sloping ceiling?

Yes. Many loft rooms have sloping ceilings and fitted storage suits them well. We measure the slope carefully at the design visit and scribe the wardrobe to it.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.

How do I get a quote?

It’s easiest to send us a few details through our contact form and let us know about the room. We then arrange a design visit, measure up and send a written quote.
