Loft storage in St Ann's
A loft room can hold a great deal of storage, if the low spaces are used well. We design and make eaves cupboards, drawers in the knee walls, wardrobes under the slopes and shelves in dormers, each shaped to the room. In St Ann's, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. If you’re living with a loft room that doubles as an office or guest room and a boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised, eaves cupboards made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
Where original shutters, doors or panelling survive, they’re worth designing around. With a large share of the homes around St Ann's built before 1919, new storage can be made to sit beside them rather than replace them. Panel details can be drawn to suit the house, and painted to match. For a listed home, fixing into original joinery can need consent, so check first.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you are getting.

Why bespoke in St Ann's?
Off-the-shelf furniture is made for straight walls and full-height ceilings. In a loft room, standard pieces leave tricky gaps under the slope. Bespoke storage follows the angle of the ceiling and fills the knee wall. It costs more than off-the-shelf furniture, and what you gain is the space a standard piece can’t reach. Standard furniture is drawn for modern rooms, so its proportions can look odd in a tall period room, whereas fitted pieces can pick up the room’s height and mouldings, with panels and details to suit the house.
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Making use of awkward spaces in St Ann's
Homes built before 1919 make up about 54% of the housing in the neighbourhood around St Ann's, with about 17% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. 5 conservation areas have at least part of their area less than a mile from the middle of St Ann's. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your street in St Ann's joins a main road, it’s worth telling us at the design visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.
If your children go to St Ann's CE Primary School or a school nearby, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. Bruce Castle, about 1.3 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. Close to Chestnuts Park? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

What affects the cost of loft storage
Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. This is what makes the difference:
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- Spray painting or hand painting
- The width and height of the space
Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension near your home. It’s useful to talk about parking during the design visit.
Getting in touch
When you contact us, these help most:
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To book one, send us a few details through our contact form.
Flats, leases and landlords
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check at the design visit.
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them during the design visit, and we’ll plan the fitting around them.
Common questions about loft storage
I live in a flat in St Ann's. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. Eaves cupboards are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.
Is St Ann's in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes, St Ann's is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Haringey and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
How long will the loft storage fitting take?
The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Because everything is made at our workshop, the work in your home is the fitting itself. We keep the route up to the loft as clear as possible.
Can I send photos before the visit?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps to avoid condensation. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

What else we make in St Ann's
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.
How fitting works for loft storage
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it sits neatly against the room. The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Terraced streets in London are often lined with parked cars, so it helps to tell us at the measuring visit what’s outside. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturday fitting can be arranged.
- First you let us know about the loft room and what you’d like to store there.
- We come to measure the room and the way up to it, and go through the design.
- A written quote follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out, for you to look over.
- The cupboards and drawers are built in our workshop, in sections sized for the loft stairs.
- We fit it in your home, scribed to the slopes and the walls, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
