Fitted home offices in St Ann's: local notes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 54% of the housing in the neighbourhood around St Ann's, with about 17% built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The National Heritage List records 7 entries within half a mile of the centre of St Ann's. Being near listed buildings doesn’t make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If your street in St Ann's joins a main road, it’s worth telling us at the measuring visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.
Bruce Castle, about 1.3 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Parish Church of St Ann, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.
St Ann's is about 1 mile north-east of Tottenham, in the London Borough of Haringey. Anywhere in St Ann's, it works the same way: a design visit, a quote in writing, furniture built in our workshop and fitting in your home. In Haringey, St Ann's is one of the places we cover, and the borough has 23 places on our list.
Postcode districts we cover here for fitted home offices: N15, N4 and N16. Streets in the area include Ida Road, Elmar Road and Grove Road, and we cover homes on all of them for fitted home offices. Neighbouring places we cover for fitted home offices include West Green (1 mile north-west), Seven Sisters (1 mile east), South Tottenham (1 mile east), Harringay (1 mile west) and Tottenham Green (1 mile north-east). We also make fitted home offices in nearby places such as Wood Green (2 miles north-west), Crouch End (2 miles west), Bowes Park (2 miles north-west), Bounds Green (2 miles north-west), Highgate (3 miles west) and Muswell Hill (3 miles west).

Fitted home offices for homes in St Ann's
Working from home is easier when the desk, shelves and storage are built for the job. We design and make built-in desks, shelving and storage for spare rooms, alcoves, landings and the space under the eaves, shaped by the way you work. For a home in St Ann's, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. We make home offices from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are flimsy shelves that won’t take the weight and an awkward space with no furniture that fits.
Floors in older houses often slope, but a desk top needs to sit level, so desks in older homes are levelled on site. Around St Ann's, a large share of homes date from before 1919, so levelling is part of the plan from the first visit. The shelving above follows the wall, with the edges scribed.
We write quotes in plain English. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, all taken from the design visit.

How fitting works for fitted home offices
Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors, stairs and doorways are covered before anything is carried through, and the sections are joined and scribed in the room.
- It starts when you get in touch about a home office. A line on how you work helps too.
- At the design visit, we look at the room, the window and your equipment, and plan where the cables will run.
- A written quote follows, with the fitting days agreed.
- Your office furniture is made in our workshop, sized for the room.
- The office is fitted and set level, ready for your first day at the desk.
Before we arrive
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
How to get a quote
A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you are ready, message us from the contact page. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

The problems fitted home offices solve
Paperwork and files often have nowhere to go. Purpose-made storage gives files, books and stationery a home. It keeps the work surface clear.
If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:
- No way to put work away
- A desk buried under papers
- Glare from a window on the screen
- An awkward space with no furniture that fits
Living in a block of flats near Seven Sisters station? Then the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
- Whether the finish is set out in the quote
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so tell us about it at the design visit.
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit.
Questions we are often asked
Do you cover homes near Seven Sisters station?
Yes, homes across Haringey and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Can you add power points to the desk?
New sockets need an electrician. We plan the furniture around them, with cable routes through the desk and units. Your electrician can then fit them as planned.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
What materials do you use for home offices?
Our home offices are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then painted. Shelves are made to suit the load they’ll carry. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you contact us, and we will see what we can do.
When you need someone else
Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:
- Building a loft conversion, which is not our work
- Changes to the structure of the house
- Any wiring or new lights, which need an electrician
If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.

Materials and finishes
Birch plywood
A home office shelf often carries heavy books and folders. We use birch plywood for shelves that carry a load. Where the span is long, we add thickness or support.
Pull-out drawers
We make the drawer boxes from birch plywood for strength. They carry papers, files and equipment. The fronts are painted to match.
