How we price fitted cupboards
Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Spray painting or hand painting
- The number of doors and drawers
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.
Helping us understand the room
Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Rough measurements: width, height and depth
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space. To send them over, send us a few details through our contact form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.
Fitted cupboards in Well Hall
Walls in period homes are rarely flat or square, and floors often slope. Every cupboard is scribed, trimmed by hand to meet the wall and set it level on a plinth or adjustable feet. Skirting boards, picture rails and coving are cut around or met neatly, so the cupboard sits comfortably in the room. If you’re living with a hallway cupboard for coats and shoes and a boiler cupboard that keeps access clear, fitted cupboards made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Well Hall, the hall is often wide enough for coat and shoe storage. Bay windows suit seating with drawers or lift-up lids, with a grille so any radiator below keeps heating the room. Fitted cupboards are measured and made for the house you have.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Let us know about it when you contact us.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot normally do that in an older room.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s easy to buy.
Honest limits
It’s worth being clear about where our work stops:
- Any gas work around the boiler
- Making good walls after other work
- Moving gas or electricity meters
If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Questions from Well Hall
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Eltham station?
Yes, homes across Greenwich and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Does a conservation area in or near Well Hall affect fitted furniture?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
What if the stairs or lift are small?
We plan the route in during the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and each section is made to a size that will get through.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.
How long will the cupboards take to fit?
The time the fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.
Can you hide my gas and electricity meters?
Yes. We can build a cupboard that hides them neatly without getting in the way of access. Moving them isn’t our work; that’s for your supplier or an electrician.
What happens on fitting day
However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is normally more generous. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.
- First, you let us know about the space and what you need to store.
- We visit, take careful measurements and go through the design with you. For a boiler cupboard, we plan for the clearances and ventilation in the manufacturer’s instructions.
- We send a quote that sets out the design, the materials and the finish, for you to read through.
- We make the carcasses, doors and shelves in our workshop.
- The cupboards are fitted in your home and trimmed to follow the walls. We check each door and shelf with you before we leave.
How to prepare
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
