Bespoke fitted cupboards or ready-made?
Ready-made cupboards are normally made from chipboard with a printed or plastic finish. Our cupboards are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray or hand painted, so the finish can match the room. Doors, windows and radiators rarely leave a gap that matches a standard width, so ready-made furniture often ends up in the wrong place. Fitted furniture is designed around them.
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Fitted cupboards for homes in Avery Hill
Landings often have a corner or a stretch of wall that does nothing. We can turn it into a linen cupboard, or storage for bedding and spare towels, with shelves spaced to suit what goes on them. We plan it so doors open without catching the stairs or the banister. We make fitted cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the things people most often want solved are cupboards for a utility or boot room and built-in storage that matches the woodwork.
An interwar house tends to have truer walls than a Victorian one, though rarely square corners. Much of the housing around Avery Hill is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so we still scribe every piece to the wall. Each piece is levelled on site, so doors, lids and drawers line up.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish.

What affects the price in Avery Hill
To work out the quote, we look at:
- The width and height of the space
- How many doors and drawers there are
- How square the room is
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
Getting in touch

- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Your postcode and the borough
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space. To share them, fill in our short enquiry form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

For fitting in Avery Hill, a van normally needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. We ask about parking at the measuring visit, so the van can be planned for.

How fitting day works
On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections made at our workshop, one at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturdays can be arranged.

Flat-pack or bespoke?
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.

Questions we’re often asked
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Can you make fitted cupboards for a home in Avery Hill?
Yes, we work across Greenwich, Avery Hill included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Can I send photos before the visit?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough sizes. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
What happens at the design visit?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch.
