How we make fitted cupboards for Greenwich
Meters and fuse boards often sit in the most awkward places, such as by the front door or in a hallway corner. We can build a cupboard that tidies them away, while keeping them easy to reach. Meter readers and engineers need to get to them, so we design doors or removable panels that make that easy. If you are living with cupboards for a utility or boot room and making use of an awkward alcove or corner, fitted cupboards made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
Newer homes often have plain spaces left as they are: a recess beside the stairs, a gap by a window, an empty cupboard. Around Greenwich, many homes were built since 2000, so spaces like that are worth a second look. The layout inside is planned to use the full depth.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish.

Flats, leases and landlords
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, as it makes good use of an awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
What affects the price in Greenwich
Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. The things that affect it are:
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- The internal fittings
- How square the room is
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.
Before the design visit
A little information at the start saves time later. Where you can, include:
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Examples of the look you’re after
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing. To arrange the visit, message us from the contact page.
Could you do it yourself?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
Is it time for fitted cupboards?
A new utility room or boot room often prompts the call. Washing machines, dryers, coats, boots and cleaning things all need a place, and a run of fitted cupboards can hold them neatly.
These come up often when people first get in touch:
- Storage in a corner nothing else fits
- Somewhere for coats, shoes and bags
- Cupboards that suit a period house
- Using the full height of a room
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Royal Observatory, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.
Before you choose who makes it
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
- Where they’ll park and unload
- A quote in writing that sets out the job
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
Fitted cupboards in Greenwich: local notes
About 36% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Greenwich went up before 1919, and about 35% since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The National Heritage List has 183 entries within half a mile of the centre of Greenwich. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and fitted cupboards can be designed to work around them. About 35% of homes in the neighbourhood around Greenwich were built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Homes built since 2000 rarely have much storage, and they tend to have stud walls, so the fixings for fitted cupboards are chosen for the board.
If your children go to Meridian Primary School or a school nearby, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit. If you live near Island Gardens, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and fitted cupboards can give those things a place.

Your questions about fitted cupboards in Greenwich
Is parking a problem for fitting in Greenwich?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Maze Hill station?
Yes. We cover the whole of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Can you hide my gas and electricity meters?
Yes. A cupboard can tidy them away and still leaves them reachable. Moving them isn’t our work, as that is a job for your supplier or electrician.
How do you get large furniture into a flat?
We plan the route in during the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and each section is made to a size that will get through.
What happens when you come to measure?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. We’ll also ask about access and parking.
How much does a fitted cupboard cost?
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Size, fittings and finish all affect the price. To arrange a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Fitting day, step by step
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Newer developments sometimes have their own parking and loading rules, so it helps to let us know during the design visit. The furniture comes in sections and is fixed in place. Saturdays can be arranged.
- First, you tell us about the room and what it needs.
- We visit, measure and talk through doors, shelves and rails.
- You receive a quote in writing.
- Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The cupboards are fitted in your home. They’re set level and scribed to the walls as they go in.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
Starting with a design visit
Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space. To send them over, drop us a line using the contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
