Loft storage in Well Hall
Sloping ceilings make standard wardrobes hard to fit. A wardrobe made for the slope follows its angle, with hanging where there’s height and shelves or drawers lower down. It uses the full height of the room. We will plan it during the design visit in Well Hall. If you’re living with needing storage in a loft office and a boarded loft with no proper shelving, that is what eaves cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
An interwar house tends to have truer walls than a Victorian one, though rarely square corners. Much of the housing around Well Hall is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so we still scribe every piece to the wall. Each piece is levelled on site, so doors, lids and drawers line up.
The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall.
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

How fitting day works
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is normally only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know at the measuring visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.
- First we hear about the loft room and what you’d like to store, including the eaves and any dormer.
- We measure the eaves, the slopes and the stairs up to the loft, as everything has to get up there.
- The design is agreed and a quote in writing follows.
- The storage is made in our workshop, in sections sized for the stairs. It is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We carry it up, fit it and check every door and drawer with you. Any hand painting is done in the loft.
Preparing the room
- Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
Getting a quote
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it. For a quote, fill in our short enquiry form.
Related advice
How we price loft storage
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- How many doors and drawers there are
- How big the furniture is
We do not publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing. To start, get in touch through our contact form.
What to send when you contact us
To help us picture the room, please include:
- Your postcode and the borough
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Examples of the look you are after
A quote begins with some details from you: the room, rough sizes and some photos if you have them. When you’re ready, fill in our short enquiry form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
Questions we’re often asked
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Well Hall?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture, which helps avoid condensation and mould. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
Can you make loft storage for a home in Well Hall?
Yes. We work across all 32 London boroughs and the City of London, Well Hall included.
Who chooses the colour?
You do. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it’s set out in the quote.
What loft storage cannot fix
We don’t treat damp or carry out building work, so these points are worth knowing:
- Building Regulations approval for a conversion
- Structural changes, like cutting into rafters or joists
- Electrical work in the loft
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can send us a few details through our contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Is it time for loft storage?
Some people want to hide clutter in the eaves. Cupboards behind the knee wall hide them away. It keeps the room tidy.
If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:
- Standard furniture that will not go up the loft stairs
- Wasted space behind the knee walls
- Boxes and suitcases with no home
- A boarded loft with no proper shelving
If you live in a period home close to St Barnabas, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk.
Choosing a carpenter

- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Can you see real work of theirs?
