Fitted Wardrobes in Nag's Head

About our fitted wardrobes in Nag's Head
In a period bedroom, the alcoves beside the chimney breast make natural wardrobe spaces. Wardrobes in both alcoves leave the chimney breast on show, and each one is scribed to walls that are rarely straight. We meet the picture rail and cornice neatly, or cut around them. If you’re living with gaps above and around standalone wardrobes and an awkward slope in a loft bedroom, fitted wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.
Floors in older houses often slope, which matters around Nag's Head, as a large share of homes there date from before 1919. Pieces stand on a levelled plinth or adjustable feet, so doors close square and the gaps stay even. Where the wall bows, the edge is scribed to follow it.
If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

How fitting day works
You will not need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed at the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, particularly in a controlled parking zone, so it helps to tell us at the design visit what’s outside. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturday fitting can be arranged.
- To begin, fill in our short enquiry form; a brief note on the bedroom and what you need to store is enough.
- We visit to measure up and work out the inside with you, from rail heights to drawer depths.
- A quote in writing follows, listing the layout inside, the doors and the finish.
- The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for the rails, shelves and drawers you chose.
- We fit the wardrobes in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.
Preparing the room
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
Getting a quote
Rough measurements are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit. To arrange it, message us from the contact page with some details about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Fitted wardrobes in Nag's Head: local notes
In the streets around Nag's Head, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 52%) and the years since 2000 (about 19%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Part of Nag's Head is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. About 30% of households in the area around Nag's Head live in flats in converted or shared houses, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. In a converted house, rooms can be odd shapes, with new partitions meeting old walls, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before anything is fixed to the walls.
Close to Whittington Park? Fitted wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. For an older house near St Joseph and St Padarn's Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. Near listed buildings like Odeon Cinema, under half a mile north-west of the centre of Nag's Head, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted wardrobes can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

How we price fitted wardrobes
There is no set price, because there is no set room. The things that affect it are:
- The number of doors and drawers
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
What to send when you contact us
Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:
- Your postcode and the borough
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you’re ready, use our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Standalone wardrobes cost less to buy and can come with you when you move. That is a real advantage if you are renting or moving soon. Built-in wardrobes become part of the house. The two recesses beside a chimney breast are seldom an identical size, which means a matching pair of ready-made units seldom fits both. Fitted furniture is made to each one separately.
The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.
Why us?

Questions from Nag's Head
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Nag's Head?
Yes, we work across Islington, Nag's Head included, and across the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Just mention it when you get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.
How is the inside of the wardrobe planned?
The inside is planned around your clothes. Long hanging, double hanging, shelves, drawers and shoe space can all be included. We talk it through at the design visit.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.
How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?
The wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. If you are in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to walls.
Flats, leases and landlords
If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
