Ham Fitted Wardrobes
We make fitted wardrobes for homes in Ham, designed around the room you have. We design your fitted wardrobe at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.
- A room too narrow for hinged doors
- Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
- A sloping ceiling that is hard to use

How we make fitted wardrobes for Ham
Doors can be hinged or sliding. With hinged doors, you see a full section when you open them. Sliding doors save that space in a narrow room, but only part of the inside is open at any one time. Which suits your room is something we talk through when we visit. If your home has bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes and clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms, fitted wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.
Many homes around Ham date from the post-war decades, and London’s post-war housing includes flats in blocks as well as houses. Rooms from that time can have lower ceilings than period homes, so fitted wardrobes are scaled to suit. For a flat, the furniture comes in sections sized for the stairs and lift, then assembled in the room.
The quote comes in writing, so there’s time to read it properly. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

How we price fitted wardrobes
Prices vary from room to room, for these reasons:
- The overall size of the piece
- The number of doors and drawers
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
Helping us understand the room
To give us a picture of the room, it’s useful to include:
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- Where you live, with the postcode
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- What the furniture needs to hold
The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. A written quote follows the visit for you to look over. To arrange the visit, use our contact form.

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in Ham
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Teddington station?
Yes. We cover all of Richmond upon Thames and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in Ham?
Yes, Ham is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Richmond upon Thames and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.
Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?
We make the wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. If you’re in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to walls.
Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?
Yes. A common layout is tall cupboards either side of the bed and storage above the headboard. It’s planned so there’s room around the bed and the room doesn’t feel enclosed.
Do pictures help?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. We will also ask about access and parking, and afterwards we send a quote in writing.
Bedrooms in Ham: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Ham were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 63%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 20%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Near the centre of Ham, Historic England’s list includes Sudbrook Lodge (Grade II*), under half a mile east, and Manor House (Grade II*), under half a mile north-west. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character can require listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. About 63% of homes in the streets around Ham were built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Bedrooms from that era tend to be regular, so fitted furniture can run wall to wall, with fixings chosen for concrete, block or brick.
For a family home near Meadlands Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. The wider area includes historic houses like Ham House, about 0.6 miles north. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. If your home is one of the older houses near Ham Christian Centre, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
Ham is part of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, about 1 mile north-west of Twickenham. Anywhere in Ham, it works the same way: a design visit, a written quote, furniture made in our workshop and fitting in your home. We cover places right across Richmond upon Thames, large and small.

Flats, conversions and lettings
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you get in touch.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
From workshop to your room
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Post-war houses tend to have straightforward halls and stairs, which helps when the sections come in. The way in is still measured, along with the room. On the day, sections are joined, levelled and fixed.

Arranging a design visit
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Advice
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Bought wardrobes are made in set sizes, so there’s typically a gap on top and at the ends. A fitted wardrobe fills the space wall to wall and up to the ceiling, so the space is used and there’s nowhere for dust to collect on top. A ready-made unit pushed back to the wall leaves a gap above the skirting, and that gap catches dust and wastes depth. Fitted furniture is scribed over the skirting or set on its own plinth.
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.

What fitted wardrobes cannot fix
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:
- Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
- Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
- Decorating or plastering the room
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. How a job runs, step by step.
