We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. This is what makes the difference:
- How big the furniture is
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- How square the room is
Tricky rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, which we write after seeing the room.
Getting in touch
Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Examples of the look you are after
To make a start, message us from the contact page and tell us which room you have in mind and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.
Fitted wardrobes for homes in Little Chelsea
Some bedrooms suit wardrobes that wrap around the bed, with cupboards each side and a run of storage above the headboard. Others work around a window, with a dressing table or seat in between. We plan the layout so the room still feels open. Most enquiries start with wasted space beside the chimney breast and condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Around Little Chelsea, a large share of homes date from before 1919, and in a Victorian or Edwardian bedroom, the chimney breast and its alcoves often shape the room. Fitted furniture can fill the alcoves, wrap round the chimney breast or run across a whole wall. Because older floors slope and walls bow, everything is scribed and levelled on site.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes
You will not need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed at the measuring visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, particularly in a controlled parking zone, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturday fitting can be arranged.
- You contact us with a few details about the room and the wardrobes you’d like, with a rough idea of what you need to hang and fold.
- At the design visit, we measure the room, check the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the doors and inside with you.
- We send a written quote with the layout, materials and finish, ready for you to read through.
- We build the wardrobes in our workshop, in sections sized to get into your home.
- We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors. The rails, shelves and drawers go in last.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
Starting with a design visit
We quote once we’ve seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Questions from Little Chelsea
Is parking a problem for fitting in Little Chelsea?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to let us know about parking during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Is Little Chelsea in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?
Yes, we work across Kensington and Chelsea, Little Chelsea included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details.
Can you build wardrobes around a bed?
Yes. Wardrobes can sit either side of the bed with a bridge of cupboards above. We plan it so the bed fits comfortably and the room still feels open.
Will fitted wardrobes get up the stairs to my flat?
We make the wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home. That is why we measure the route, not just the room. If you are in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to walls.
How long are you in the house for fitting?
It depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The making happens in our workshop before we come to fit them.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room.
Flats, conversions and lettings
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Tell us about it when you contact us.
Fitted bedroom furniture in Little Chelsea
In the neighbourhood around Little Chelsea, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 67%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 12%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Within a mile of the centre of Little Chelsea, 25 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. More than half of the homes in the area around Little Chelsea (about 67%) were built before 1919, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast and alcoves, which suit wardrobes built to their widths.
For an older house near Church of St Andrew, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Chelsea Old Church (all Saints), original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. Close to Burton’s Court? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.

Boards, parts and paint
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting lets you judge the colour in the room as it goes on. Scribed edges and joins are painted along with the rest.
Hanging rails
Long rails need support so they do not bend under heavy coats when it carries winter coats. Rail lengths are planned so they stay straight.
Caring for painted furniture
Getting the most from fitted wardrobes starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- Work out the split between long and short hanging
- Clear the wall where the wardrobes will go before fitting day
- Check your lease before fixing furniture to walls in a leasehold flat
- Check the route into your flat, not just the room
With sliding doors, vacuum the track now and then so the doors run smoothly. Clear anything that falls into it.
Do not overload a single rail or shelf. Rails and shelves are planned for normal use.
