Fitted wardrobes in Holland Park

In older bedrooms, the chimney breast alcoves are often the obvious place for clothes. Wardrobes in both alcoves leave the chimney breast on show, and each one is scribed to walls that are rarely straight. We meet the picture rail and cornice neatly, or cut around them. Most enquiries start with several odd pieces where one run of storage would do and a room too narrow for hinged doors, and the answer is built in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Floors in older houses often slope, and a large share of the homes around Holland Park are that old. Pieces stand on a levelled plinth or adjustable feet, so the doors line up and the gaps run straight. Where the wall bows, the edge is scribed to follow it.

A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the fitted wardrobe designed for your room, its materials and its finish, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

Do you need fitted wardrobes in Holland Park?

Most people come to us because they’ve simply run out of space. Clothes end up on chairs, in boxes under the bed or in another room. A fitted wardrobe uses the full height of the wall.

If any of these sound familiar, it is worth getting in touch:

  • Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
  • Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall
  • A room too narrow for hinged doors
  • Dusty space on top of the wardrobe

If you live near Kensington Palace Green, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • How parking will work on your street

How to choose a carpenter in London

What affects the price in Holland Park

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • Parking near your home
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • The width and height of the space

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose.

What we need to know

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Any ideas or images you have saved
  • Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • How you want to use the space
  • Your postcode and the borough

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit for you to look over. To arrange the visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

From workshop to your room

At the end, we tidy up. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Terraced streets in London are often lined with parked cars, so it helps to tell us at the measuring visit what’s outside. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturday fitting can be arranged.

  1. You describe the bedroom and the storage you need.
  2. We come to measure and talk through hanging heights, doors and drawers, with your clothes in mind.
  3. A quote in writing follows.
  4. Once you are happy, the wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We bring them to your home and fit them in place.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time

How to get a quote

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space. To send them over, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

Could you do it yourself?

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Holland Park?

It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

What can go inside a fitted wardrobe?

We plan it with you during the design visit, starting from the clothes you have. Some shelves can be adjustable so the layout can change.

Do you do plastering or decorating?

No. Our work is the furniture, not the walls. We finish the furniture itself, as set out in your quote.

How do I get a quote for fitted wardrobes in Holland Park?

It’s easiest to message us from the contact page. After that, we arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We’ll design around them.

Where other trades come in

Not everything around fitted wardrobes is carpentry, like an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here’s what to know:

  • Electrical work, such as moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician
  • Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
  • Fixing the cause of condensation or damp

Not sure whether your space suits fitted wardrobes? You can message us from the contact page and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What it’s made from

  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Birch plywood
  • Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Hinged or sliding doors

Fitted wardrobes for homes in Holland Park

About 69% of the homes in the area around Holland Park went up before 1919, and about 11% between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted wardrobes are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of Holland Park, Historic England’s list includes Holland House (Grade I), under half a mile south-east, and Debenham House (Grade I), under half a mile south-west. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If your street in Holland Park joins a main road, it is worth telling us at the measuring visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.

If your children go to Holland Park School or a school nearby, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. The wider area includes historic houses such as Leighton House, about 0.4 miles south. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
