Fitted wardrobes in Chelsea, Kensington and Chelsea

- Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
- A room too narrow for hinged doors
- Standard wardrobes that do not fill the wall
Need fitted wardrobes in Chelsea?
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Modular interior systems can be rearranged easily, and that flexibility is useful. A bespoke interior is planned around your clothes from the start, and adjustable shelves keep some flexibility. Chimney breasts in older houses stand out by different amounts, so the recesses either side are rarely the same, which means a matching pair of ready-made units seldom fits both. Fitted furniture is made to each one separately.
We don’t publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Why choose us
- Work across the whole of London
- Made in our workshop, then fitted in your home
- Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
- Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
Take a look at how bespoke compares with ready-made or what a quote should include.
How we make fitted wardrobes for Chelsea
Fitted wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in a colour agreed with you. We then fit them in your home, setting them level on adjustable feet or a plinth. Most enquiries start with not enough hanging space and gaps above and around standalone wardrobes; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
A large share of the homes around Chelsea were built before 1919, and bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast with an alcove either side. Fitted storage can sit in the alcoves or span the wall, chimney breast and all. Because older floors slope and walls bow, everything is scribed and levelled on site.
Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

What happens on fitting day
Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.
- You tell us about the room, including any slopes, alcoves or windows. A rough sketch of the room helps if you have one.
- We come to measure and talk through hanging heights, doors and drawers.
- A quote in writing follows. It lists what’s inside each wardrobe as well as the doors.
- Once you’re happy, the wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The wardrobes are fitted in your home, ready to use. We adjust the doors so they hang and close evenly.
How to prepare
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
Starting with a design visit
To get a quote, message us from the contact page and tell us which room you have in mind. We then arrange a design visit to measure and discuss the design, and a quote in writing follows.

Flats, leases and landlords
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route at the design visit.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.
What prompts fitted wardrobes in Chelsea
Sometimes it’s a change in how a room is used. Fitted wardrobes give it proper storage while leaving space to move. Adjustable shelves let the inside change over time.
These come up often when people first get in touch:
- Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
- A sloping ceiling that’s hard to use
- Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
- Too little room for clothes
If you live in a period home close to Former Welsh Congregational Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.
Before you choose who makes it
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
- Whether you’ll get a quote in writing, not just a figure
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
- Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Chelsea
I live near London Victoria station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Kensington and Chelsea and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Can you fit fitted wardrobes to the uneven walls of an older house in Chelsea?
Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.
Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?
Yes. A common layout is tall cupboards either side of the bed and storage above the headboard. We plan it so the bed fits comfortably and the room still feels open.
Is it OK to put a wardrobe on an outside wall?
Yes. We plan ventilation behind and inside wardrobes on external walls, in moisture-resistant MDF. If there is damp on the wall already, it should be sorted first.
How is the inside of the wardrobe planned?
We plan it with you at the design visit, starting from the clothes you have. Adjustable shelves keep some flexibility for later.
Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?
The space in front of the wardrobe typically decides it. If a bed or a door is close, sliding doors can make more sense, and in a roomier space hinged doors give easier access. We’ll look at the room with you at the design visit.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Fitted wardrobes for homes in Chelsea
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Chelsea were built before 1919 (about 68%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 13%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The National Heritage List has 337 entries within half a mile of the centre of Chelsea. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. Controlled parking zones cover much of inner London, and each borough runs its own. For fitting in Chelsea, a van usually needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know about parking near your home at the design visit.
If you live near Burton’s Court, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of St Luke, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.
