Fitted wardrobes designed for your room

Fitted wardrobes in Lower Morden: what you get

A fitted wardrobe is built into the room itself, running floor to ceiling and wall to wall where the space allows. There is no dusty gap on top and no awkward space at the ends. If you’re planning fitted wardrobes in Lower Morden, the first step is a design visit to measure up and talk through the design. If your home has not enough hanging space and empty alcoves in the bedroom, fitted wardrobes made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

In a 1930s semi, the main bedroom often sits over the front room and its bay, which leaves the side walls for storage and the bay for light. Interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing around Lower Morden, so that shape of room is worth knowing. Every wall is measured, as a room that looks square rarely is.

You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

From workshop to your room

On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop. How long the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom, with a rough idea of what you need to hang and fold.
  2. We visit to measure up and plan the doors, rails, shelves and drawers with you.
  3. We send a quote in writing with the layout, materials and finish.
  4. We build the wardrobes in our workshop, in sections sized to get into your home. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors. The rails, shelves and drawers go in last.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Arranging a design visit

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in Lower Morden

Most people come to us because they’ve simply run out of space. Clothes spill onto chairs, into spare rooms and under the bed. A fitted wardrobe uses the full height of the wall, which adds a lot of space without taking more floor.

Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:

  • A tight bedroom where doors get in the way
  • An awkward slope in a loft bedroom
  • Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall
  • Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes

For families living near Aragon Primary School, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

With off-the-shelf wardrobes, the colour choice is the maker’s. We paint fitted wardrobes in the colour you choose, sprayed in the workshop or painted by hand. Bespoke work does take longer than buying from a shop, because of the design visit, the quote and the making. Standard widths rarely add up to the length of a real wall, which fitted furniture avoids. It can use the full height too.

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

What it is made from

Hanging rails

Rails are set at heights that suit your clothes: a high rail for long items and double rails for shorter ones.

Spray-painted finish

A sprayed coat covers edges, corners and panels evenly. You choose the colour before we start.

Lower Morden homes and fitted wardrobes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 85% of the housing in the area around Lower Morden, with about 6% built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted wardrobes are fixed and fitted. The centre of Lower Morden is within about a quarter of a mile of the Upper Morden Conservation Area. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. The council can confirm if you are not sure. Terraced houses are home to about 43% of households in the area around Lower Morden, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. Terraced houses often have a narrow back bedroom and alcoves either side of a chimney breast, both good spaces for fitted storage.

Close to Cannon Hill Common? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls. Living in a block of flats near St Helier station? Then fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Lower Morden

Is Lower Morden in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?

Yes, we work across Merton, Lower Morden included, and across the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.

Will a conservation area stop me having fitted wardrobes fitted in Lower Morden?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

Is it possible to have storage over the bed?

Yes. A common layout is tall cupboards either side of the bed and storage above the headboard. We plan it so the bed fits comfortably and the room still feels open.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?

Each wardrobe is built in sections that suit the stairs, landings and lift, and the wardrobe is put together in the room. Let us know if your block has lift or concierge booking rules.

Can I choose the layout inside the wardrobe?

You choose the mix of hanging, shelves and drawers. Long hanging, double hanging, shelves, drawers and shoe space can all be included. We plan it with you when we visit.
