Fitted wardrobes in North End, Bexley
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on fitted wardrobes in North End starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.
- Too little room for clothes
- Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall
- A tight bedroom where doors get in the way

Rail heights are set for the clothes they hold. A tall section suits long coats and dresses, while two rails, one over the other, suit shirts and jackets. We also think about who uses it, keeping rails at a height they can reach. We make fitted wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are storage boxes stacked under the bed and mismatched bedroom furniture.
Post-war bedrooms often have a wide window with a radiator underneath, so storage normally goes on the walls beside or opposite. Many homes around North End were built in the post-war decades, so it’s a layout worth planning for. Furniture is kept clear of the radiator so the heat reaches the room.
The furniture is made in our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Fitted wardrobes for homes in North End
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around North End were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 33%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 29%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted wardrobes are fixed and fitted. The centre of North End is within about a quarter of a mile of the Oak Road Conservation Area. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Bexley included. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in North End is covered by it. How the van gets to your door is planned during the design visit.
Living in a block of flats near Slade Green station? Then each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. If your children go to St. Paul's (Slade Green) Church of England Primary School or a school nearby, fitted wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. For an older house near St. Augustine's Church, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
North End is about 5 miles south-west of Sidcup, part of the London Borough of Bexley. Whether your home in North End is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, we measure the room as it is and design around it. North End is one of the places in Bexley where we make fitted wardrobes.

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in North End
Is North End in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?
Yes, North End is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Bexley and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in North End?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.
How is the furniture painted?
You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings may need listed building consent for works that affect their character, so ask the council’s conservation officer.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?
Floors in older houses are often out of level. We set fitted wardrobes level on a plinth or adjustable feet and the doors line up.
What affects the cost of fitted wardrobes
The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- Parking and unloading on your street
- The internal fittings
How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
What to send when you get in touch
There is no need for exact sizes or plans. It’s enough to send:
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- Your postcode and the borough
The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote for you to look over. To arrange the visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Off-the-shelf wardrobes come in standard heights and widths, so there is normally a gap on top and at the ends. A fitted wardrobe fills the space wall to wall and up to the ceiling. A room without alcoves gives ready-made furniture nothing to sit into, so it stands out from the wall, whereas fitted furniture can make its own recesses and frame a window or door.
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

What else we make in North End
Honest limits
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. That means:
- Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician
- Redecorating around the wardrobes
- Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.
What goes into it
- Hinged or sliding doors
- Spray-painted finish
- Birch plywood
- Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Hand-painted finish
Looking after your furniture
None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:
- Check the route into your flat, not just the room
- Mention if the wardrobe will go on an external wall
- Count how much long hanging and short hanging you need
- Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations
A soft, slightly damp cloth is enough to clean painted doors. Avoid abrasive pads and strong sprays, which can mark the finish.
Close doors gently and don’t let them swing into furniture. It helps the hinges and runners stay true.
From workshop to your room
Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Post-war blocks often have shared stairwells and lifts, so fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for each. Tell us about any building rules on lifts or working hours at the measuring visit.
- You get in touch with some details about the bedroom and where it is in the house.
- At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn. Tell us about parking as well, as a van normally needs a permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension in much of London.
- You receive a written quote for the wardrobes.
- In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
- Fitting day: the sections come in, are joined and set level, and the doors are hung.
Preparing the room
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
Starting with a design visit
To get a quote, use our contact form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and discuss the design, and a written quote follows.
