Fitted wardrobes in Pollards Hill, Croydon

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make fitted wardrobes for homes in Pollards Hill, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • An tricky slope in a loft bedroom
  • Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall
  • No space in front for doors to swing

Fitted wardrobes for homes in Pollards Hill

The inside matters as much as the doors. We plan the mix of long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers around your clothes, so coats and dresses have room and shirts don’t waste height. It is worth noting the clothes you reach for most before the design visit. If you’re living with several odd pieces where one run of storage would do and no space in front for doors to swing, that’s what fitted wardrobes are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

With interwar houses or semis a big part of the housing around Pollards Hill, bedrooms are often simple shapes, sometimes with a chimney breast or a bay. That makes a full wall of fitted furniture simple to plan, laid out around what you store. Where a loft conversion has been added, the sloping ceiling can take storage too.

A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It describes the fitted wardrobe we have designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it is finished.

Materials and finishes

Birch plywood

Drawers get heavy use, so we often make the boxes from birch plywood, standing up to daily opening.

Spray-painted finish

Spray painting is done in the workshop, which gives large doors a smooth, even surface. It works on plain and panelled doors alike.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Large flat-pack wardrobes can be hard to build in a small bedroom. Our wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors, then put together in the room. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, and standalone units can lean or gap. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.

Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Why us?

  • Made for your room, not a standard size
  • Made in our workshop, then fitted in your home
  • Every quote follows a design visit
  • Saturday work by prior arrangement

Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in Pollards Hill

A move is a common trigger. Standalone wardrobes from a previous home may not fit the new bedroom, or may not make it up the stairs. Built-in wardrobes are planned for the room you live in now.

Fitted wardrobes can help with:

  • Too little room for clothes
  • Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
  • Empty alcoves in the bedroom
  • Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall

For a flat near Norbury station, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Real projects you can actually look at
  • How they handle walls that aren’t straight
  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote

Bedroom storage in Pollards Hill

In the streets around Pollards Hill, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 43%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 34%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Pollards Hill include Norbury Hall (Grade II), less than half a mile west. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Croydon included. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Pollards Hill. Access and parking are talked through during the design visit.

Kingswood House, about 1.9 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. If your home is one of the older houses near St Oswald, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.

Fitting day, step by step

There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed during the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You get in touch and let us know what you keep in your wardrobes now.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the inside with you, from rail heights to drawer depths.
  3. The written quote sets out each wardrobe’s inside layout, the doors, the materials and the finish.
  4. The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for the rails, shelves and drawers you chose.
  5. We fit the wardrobes in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

How to prepare

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to

Questions from Pollards Hill

Is parking a problem for fitting in Pollards Hill?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Norbury station?

Yes, homes across Croydon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, but it’s useful to be around at the end.

What affects the price of fitted wardrobes?

Size, doors and drawers, what goes inside and the finish all affect it, along with access and parking. The price comes in a quote in writing after the design visit.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We will design around them.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Not normally. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. Listed buildings may need listed building consent for works that affect their character, so check with the council first.
