TV and Media Units in Pollards Hill
TV and media units in Pollards Hill: built-in TV walls and media cabinets. We visit to measure and discuss the design, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it.
- Boxes and consoles on the floor
- A cabinet that traps heat
- A screen at the wrong height
Need TV and media units in Pollards Hill?
Could you do it yourself?
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
About our TV and media units in Pollards Hill
Everything starts with the screen. The opening is planned around your current TV, or a bigger one if you are likely to upgrade, with a margin so it isn’t a tight squeeze. Viewing height matters too: it should suit where you sit, not just the wall. People normally come to us about clutter around the TV and nowhere good for speakers, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
A house from between the wars typically has lower ceilings than a Victorian one, and the proportions of TV and media units are set to match. Where your home is one of the interwar houses or semis that are a big part of the housing around Pollards Hill, the cornice may be plain or missing, so the furniture can run straight to the ceiling. The skirting is scribed around neatly.
Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

How fitting day works
Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and that happens on fitting day. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.
- It starts with a short note from you about the TV wall.
- We visit to plan the unit and check the way in. Let us know about parking too, since a van may need a visitor permit or a paid bay.
- We send a quote in writing.
- In our workshop we make the unit in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The sections are carried in, assembled and set level, ready for your equipment.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street

What TV and media units can’t fix
We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:
- New sockets behind the TV, which need an electrician
- Painting the walls and ceiling
- Configuring the TV and sound system
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can send us a few details through our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Your questions about TV and media units in Pollards Hill
Can you make TV and media units for a home in Pollards Hill?
Yes. Pollards Hill is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Croydon and London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Pollards Hill?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.
What if I buy a larger TV?
We can plan the opening with a bigger screen in mind so the unit suits your next set. Tell us the size you might move to during the design visit.
Can the TV be wall-mounted with a unit around it?
Where the TV is to be wall-mounted, we plan the unit around the bracket and the cable route behind it. The wall needs to be sound for the bracket so we check the wall at the measuring visit.
Can a TV unit hold speakers?
Speakers and soundbars get open shelves sized for them. Closing speakers behind a door muffles them.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Typically not. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings may need listed building consent for works that affect their character, so check with the council first.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Let us know about it when you contact us.
Living-room storage in Pollards Hill
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Pollards Hill were built before 1919 (about 43%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 34%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. 5 conservation areas have at least part of their area less than a mile from the middle of Pollards Hill. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Terraced houses in London often have alcoves beside a chimney breast, and TV and media units are made to those widths.
If your home is one of the older houses near St Oswald, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at. If you live in a flat close to Norbury station, the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Norbury Hall, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.

How we price TV and media units
Prices vary from room to room, for these reasons:
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- The width and height of the space
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Doors and drawers, and how many
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
Helping us understand the room
When you contact us, these help most:
- Where you live, with the postcode
- How you want to use the space
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
Getting a quote starts with a few details: the room, rough measurements and some pictures if you have them. To send them, use our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a quote in writing.
