Fitted wardrobes in Puddle Dock
An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, and clothes pressed against a cold wall can lead to condensation. Where a wardrobe goes on an external wall, we plan ventilation behind and inside it. We use moisture-resistant MDF, which suits that position. If your home has space under the eaves going to waste and a room too narrow for hinged doors, fitted wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
Many 1930s houses have had a loft conversion, adding a bedroom under a sloping ceiling, and that slope can be used for storage built to the angle. A big part of the housing around Puddle Dock is interwar, semi-detached or detached. We work in lofts that are already converted, and the furniture is scribed to the slope and the walls.
You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Could you do it yourself?
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Flats, conversions and lettings
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them during the design visit.
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.
How we price fitted wardrobes
Not every room costs the same, and it comes down to:
- The internal fittings
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- Parking near your home
- The width and height of the space
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.
Getting in touch
When you contact us, these help most:
- Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Where you live, with the postcode
- How you want to use the space
It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space. To share them, fill in our short enquiry form, and we will arrange a design visit.
FAQs: fitted wardrobes in Puddle Dock
I live near Upminster station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Havering and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in Puddle Dock?
Yes, we work across Havering, Puddle Dock included, and across the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Will fitted wardrobes get up the stairs to my flat?
We plan the sections around the route into your flat, and the wardrobe is put together in the room. Let us know if your block has lift or concierge booking rules.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We will design around them.
Is it possible to have storage over the bed?
Yes. A common layout is tall cupboards either side of the bed and storage above the headboard. We plan it so the bed fits comfortably and the room still feels open.
How much will my fitted wardrobe cost?
Size, doors and drawers, what goes inside and the finish all affect it. The price comes in a written quote after the design visit.
Is it time for fitted wardrobes?
After a loft conversion, the new bedroom normally needs storage that suits the slopes. Storage built into the slope uses space that would otherwise go to waste, keeping the room clear.
If you recognise any of these, it’s worth talking to us:
- Wardrobes that are full to bursting
- Wasted space beside the chimney breast
- Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
- Space under the eaves going to waste
For a family home near The James Oglethorpe Primary School, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.
Before you choose who makes it
- A quote in writing that sets out the job
- Real projects you can actually look at
- How doors and drawers are fitted
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
What happens on fitting day
You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully. The time the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Interwar houses typically have a straight run of stairs and a reasonable hallway, though we still measure the route in not just the room. Fitted wardrobes arrive in sections and are assembled in place.
- You get in touch with some details about the bedroom and where it is in the house.
- At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn.
- You receive a quote in writing for the wardrobes.
- In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
- Fitting day: the sections come in, are joined and set level, and the doors are hung.
Before fitting day
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
- Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
