Fitted Wardrobes in Southwark

In Southwark, we design fitted wardrobes around the room you actually have. We design your fitted wardrobe at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • Not enough hanging space
  • No space in front for doors to swing
  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall

What affects the price in Southwark

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • The width and height of the space
  • How square the room is

Rooms that aren’t square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, written once we have measured up.

What to send when you contact us

There’s no need for exact sizes or plans. It is enough to send:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • How you want to use the space

Rough sizes are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

About our fitted wardrobes in Southwark

Some bedrooms suit wardrobes that wrap around the bed, with tall cupboards either side and storage bridging over the headboard. Others work around a window. The layout is planned so the room doesn’t feel boxed in. If you are living with mismatched bedroom furniture and wardrobes that are full to bursting, fitted wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.

Many homes around Southwark were built since 2000, and across London a lot of homes from those years are compact flats in newer blocks. Small rooms suit fitted furniture that uses the full height and the tricky corners. Boxed-in pipes and service risers can be built around, so nothing is wasted.

A written quote follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

Boards, parts and paint

Spray-painted finish

Spraying in the workshop means the doors come to your home finished. Treat them gently while the paint cures fully.

Birch plywood

Birch plywood is stiff and grips screws firmly, so it’s a good choice for carcasses, shelves and drawer boxes. Its layered edge can be painted or left on show.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Southwark

In the neighbourhood around Southwark, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 46%) and before 1919 (about 17%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Southwark include The George Inn (Grade I), under half a mile north-east, and Church of St George the Martyr (Grade II*), under half a mile east. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Controlled parking zones cover much of inner London, and each borough runs its own. That usually means a van in Southwark needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council. We ask about parking at the design visit, so the van can be planned for.

For families living near Charles Dickens Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. If your home is one of the older houses near Borough Welsh Congregational Chapel, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.

Southwark is about 3 miles south of East Dulwich, part of the London Borough of Southwark. Anywhere in Southwark, it works the same way: we visit and measure, send a quote in writing, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. Our work takes in places right across the rest of London, large and small.

Here we cover the SE1 and SE11 postcode area for fitted wardrobes. If your home is on a street such as Borough Square, Trinity Church Square and Merrick Square, or close by, we can visit to measure up for fitted wardrobes. Southwark is near the A300 and B240, so if your home is on a main road, mention it when you contact us. We also cover Tower Hill (1 mile north-east), City of London (1 mile north), Aldgate (1 mile north-east), Bishopsgate (1 mile north-east) and Barbican Estate (1 mile north). Elsewhere in the rest of London, we also cover East Dulwich (3 miles south), Herne Hill (3 miles south), Camberwell (2 miles south), Peckham (3 miles south-east), Rotherhithe (2 miles east) and Surrey Quays (2 miles east).

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Elephant & Castle station?

Yes, homes across London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Is Southwark in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?

Yes. We cover the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.

Can you build wardrobes around a bed?

Yes. Wardrobes can sit either side of the bed with a bridge of cupboards above. It’s planned so there’s room around the bed and the room does not feel enclosed.

Should I choose hinged or sliding wardrobe doors?

It depends on the room. Hinged doors open a whole section at once but need room in front to swing, while sliding doors save space but only open part of the wardrobe at a time. We talk through both at the design visit.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

How fitting day works

You will not need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and it is useful to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed during the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On the day, floors are covered first and the sections brought in. The pieces are levelled and fixed with fixings that suit the wall. Hand-painted finishes can be completed once the furniture is in.

  1. You send us a few details about the room and the storage you need, and we arrange a design visit.
  2. We visit to measure the room and talk through the design.
  3. You receive a written quote setting out the wardrobes, doors and finish, so you can see what’s included.
  4. We make the carcasses, doors and drawers in our workshop, sized to get through your doors and up the stairs.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted in your home, set level and scribed to the walls and ceiling. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away

Ask for a quote

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, once the room is measured and the design talked through. For a quote, message us from the contact page.

Advice

When you need someone else

Not everything around fitted wardrobes is carpentry, like an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here’s what to know:

  • Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster
  • Building work to create a loft room
  • Electrical work, such as moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician

If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.

What it’s made from

  • Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
  • Birch plywood
  • Hinged or sliding doors
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF

Do you need fitted wardrobes in Southwark?

Sometimes it is a change in how a room is used. Built-in storage makes the room work for its new role. Adjustable shelves let the inside change over time.

Common reasons to get in touch include:

  • Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
  • A sloping ceiling that is hard to use
  • No space in front for doors to swing
  • Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do

Mansion House, about 0.9 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.

What to check before you book

  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
