Bespoke kitchens for homes in Southwark
A bespoke kitchen is built around the room you have. Each cabinet is made to the real measurements of your walls, floor and ceiling, so there are no filler panels covering awkward gaps. You decide the layout, the storage and the colour with us, and the kitchen is made in our workshop before it’s fitted. Typical reasons to get in touch are a central island in a larger kitchen and a pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Homes built since 2000 rarely have a separate utility room, so a tall cupboard for laundry and cleaning things can help. Many homes around Southwark date from 2000 onwards. Plumbing for appliances is for your plumber.
Our quotes are written in plain words. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens
Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Parking at newer developments can be restricted, with private bays or loading areas, so let us know what applies at the measuring visit. The furniture comes in sections and is fixed in place. Saturdays can be arranged.
- We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold.
- We visit to measure and go through the design and storage.
- A quote follows, covering the design and finish.
- We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop.
- Fitting day: we fit the cabinets, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer handle the services.
Before fitting day
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
Starting with a design visit
To get a quote, fill in our short enquiry form and tell us which room you have in mind and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.

Could you do it yourself?
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s quick to buy.
Common questions about bespoke kitchens
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Elephant & Castle station?
Yes. We cover the whole of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Is Southwark in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?
Yes. We cover the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote.
Do you do the plumbing and electrics?
No, that work is for other trades. Your plumber connects the sink and dishwasher, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register handles any gas, and your electrician does the wiring, while we make and fit the cabinets.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.
Can I send photos before the visit?
Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough measurements. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Ready-made kitchens are widely available and often cheaper and they suit many newer homes. Where walls lean and floors slope, they can be hard to fit neatly. A bespoke kitchen costs more but is made for the room. Separate ready-made pieces can make an open-plan room feel unplanned, whereas fitted furniture can define each part of the room.
Rooms that aren’t square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That’s reflected in the quote.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of.
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you.
Do you need bespoke kitchens in Southwark?
Kitchens in older homes can be short on cupboard space. A larder or tall units can change how much you can store than a row of standard wall units.
Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:
- Making the most of a galley kitchen
- Spaces sized for your oven and fridge
- A larder for food and small appliances
- A central island in a larger kitchen
Mansion House, about 0.9 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.
Choosing a carpenter
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Will the quote be in writing?
Bespoke kitchens for homes in Southwark
In the neighbourhood around Southwark, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 46%) and before 1919 (about 17%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Part of Southwark is in the Liberty of the Mint Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. Newer homes are more common around Southwark than across the rest of London: about 46% date from 2000 onwards, against about 28%, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That makes plasterboard stud walls and compact rooms more likely, which shapes the fixings and sizes.
For a flat near Elephant & Castle station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. If you live near Little Dorrit's Playground, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design.
