Peckham Fitted Wardrobes
In Peckham, we design fitted wardrobes around the room you actually have. Your fitted wardrobe is designed at a visit to your home and made in our workshop.
- Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall
- Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
- Wardrobes that are full to bursting
Fitted wardrobes designed for your room
What happens on fitting day
However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. If you live in a block, check any rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours; for a house, steps, paths and parking are the things to mention. Either way, the day is planned at the measuring visit. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You tell us about the room, including any slopes, alcoves or windows. A rough sketch of the room helps if you have one.
- We come to measure and talk through hanging heights, doors and drawers, with your clothes in mind.
- A quote in writing follows. It lists what’s inside each wardrobe as well as the doors.
- We then make the wardrobes in our workshop.
- We bring them to your home and fit them in place. We adjust the doors so they hang and close evenly.
Preparing the room
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
Starting with a design visit
If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, send us a few details through our contact form.

Fitted wardrobes in Peckham
Loft conversions, common in London terraces, often leave sloping ceilings. A fitted wardrobe can follow the slope, keeping long hanging where there is height and drawers or shelves lower down. Space that is hard to use otherwise becomes useful storage. People normally come to us about damp or musty clothes against an external wall and standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall, and the answer is made in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Whether your home in Peckham is a period house, an interwar semi, a post-war flat or a newer build, fitted wardrobes are designed for the room as it is. External walls can be colder than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation. The inside layout is planned around what you actually store.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Questions we are often asked
Is Peckham in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?
Yes. We cover all of Southwark and the rest of London, and Peckham is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Peckham?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
How do I get a quote?
It’s easiest to tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room. After that, we arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?
The wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. In a leasehold flat, it is worth checking the lease first.
What finishes do you offer?
You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Could you do it yourself?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.
What it’s made from
Birch plywood
Shelves inside a wardrobe carry folded clothes, shoes and boxes. Birch plywood helps keep them straight, even across a wide section.
Moisture-resistant MDF
Tall doors need a stable material. MDF stays flat and gives a smooth surface for painting.
Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in Peckham
A move is a common trigger. Standalone wardrobes from a previous home may not fit the new bedroom. Built-in wardrobes are planned for the room you live in now.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
- Empty alcoves in the bedroom
- Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall
- Wardrobes that are full to bursting
For families living near John Donne Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Whether the finish is set out in the quote
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
Fitted bedroom furniture in Peckham
Homes built before 1919 make up about 39% of the housing in the area around Peckham, with about 21% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. There are 75 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Peckham. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. Purpose-built flats are home to about 51% of households in the neighbourhood around Peckham, according to Census 2021. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.
If you live near Brimmington Park, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window. For an older house near All Saints Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.
Peckham is in the London Borough of Southwark, about 1 mile south-west of East Dulwich. Anywhere in Peckham, it works the same way: we visit and measure, send a quote in writing, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. We list Peckham among 21 places we cover in Southwark.
In SE15, SE14 and SE5, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. We cover homes on streets such as Rye Lane, Relf Road and Mona Road, along with the roads around them, for fitted wardrobes and any of our other fitted furniture. The A2215 runs close to Peckham; on busy main roads, unloading fitted wardrobes takes a little planning. Close by, we also work in Nunhead (1 mile south-east), Telegraph Hill (1 mile south-east), South Bermondsey (1 mile north), Surrey Canal (1 mile north-east) and East Dulwich (1 mile south-west). Elsewhere in Southwark, we also cover Herne Hill (2 miles south-west), Bermondsey (2 miles north), Elephant and Castle (2 miles north-west), Bankside (3 miles north-west), Southwark (3 miles north-west) and St George's Fields (3 miles north-west).
Around Peckham
We fit furniture in homes around The Kentish Drovers pub and The St Thomas the Apostle College and the streets around them. There is a railway station in Peckham itself: Queens Road Peckham station. A little further out are Southwark Adult Education Institute (under half a mile east) and Surrey Quays Shopping Centre (1.8 miles north). For a walk, there’s Bellenden Road Nature Garden.
Flats, conversions and lettings
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check at the measuring visit.
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it during the design visit.
