Fitted home offices for your home in Bow Common

Fitted home offices for homes in Bow Common

Working from home is easier when the desk, shelves and storage are built for the job. Our home offices are made for spare rooms, alcoves, landings and loft rooms, shaped by the way you work. For a home in Bow Common, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. If your home has a tangle of chargers and leads and files and folders piling up, that’s what home offices are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

Many homes around Bow Common have been built since 2000, and newer homes often have compact second bedrooms that end up as offices. A desk with shelves and closed storage can share the room with a wall bed or a sofa bed. Stud walls need the right fixings for loaded shelves.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the home office we have designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it is finished.

Fitted home offices for homes in Bow Common

Homes built since 2000 make up about 48% of the housing in the streets around Bow Common, with about 23% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. There are 29 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Bow Common. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Tower Hamlets is inside it. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Bow Common, as it does anywhere else in London. Access and parking are talked through at the design visit.

For a family home near Stebon Primary School, a desk with shelves and closed storage can serve both work and homework. Sutton House, about 2.4 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window. Near listed buildings like Church of St Anne, about 0.5 miles south-west of the centre of Bow Common, older homes may keep original joinery that home offices can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

Why bespoke in Bow Common?

Off-the-shelf desks come in the maker’s finishes. We paint the office in the colour you choose, so it can match the room or the woodwork. Large off-the-shelf pieces can make a small room feel smaller, while fitted furniture, painted in a colour that suits the walls, reads as part of the room.

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.

Why us?

  • Built in our workshop and fitted in your home
  • A design visit, then a quote in writing
  • Saturday visits and fitting by arrangement
  • Finished by spray or by hand

See how bespoke compares with ready-made or what to look for in a quote.

When is bespoke worth it?

Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is easy to buy.

Common questions about fitted home offices

Will a conservation area stop me having fitted home offices fitted in Bow Common?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

Can you make fitted home offices for a home in Bow Common?

Yes, Bow Common is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

Can a home office go in a loft room?

Yes, if the loft is already a converted room. Headroom is the main thing to plan around, so the desk sits where you can stand up. Lower areas can take cupboards and shelves.

What materials do you use for home offices?

The office is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives strength to the desk, shelves and drawers, and MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you have chosen.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them during the design visit, and we’ll plan the fitting around them.

Fitting day, step by step

Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In a newer home, floors, walls and door frames are often freshly finished, so we protect the route before carrying anything in. Corners and door frames are covered as well. The sections are assembled in the room.

  1. You contact us about a home office in a spare room, alcove, landing or under the eaves.
  2. We visit to measure the space, including any slope, alcove or uneven wall.
  3. A written quote follows.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the office in your home, trimming the edges to follow the walls and ceiling.
  6. The finish is either sprayed in our workshop or hand-painted once everything is in.

Looking after your furniture

A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:

  • Estimate the shelf space you’ll need
  • Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
  • Consider doors to hide work at the end of the day
  • Mention any parking rules on your street

Wiping the desk and fronts with a soft, damp cloth is typically all they need. Dry them afterwards, and avoid abrasive pads and strong solvents. The desk edge is touched most, so give it a wipe now and then.

Keep cables in their routes rather than pulled across the desk. Wires pulled across an edge can wear it. Every so often, tidy the cables back into place.
