Earlsfield Fitted Home Offices
In Earlsfield, we design fitted home offices around the room you actually have. We design your home office at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.
- A room with two jobs to do
- No proper place to work from home
- Wires with no tidy route

Where the window sits affects how comfortable the desk will be. A screen facing a window can be hard to read, and a window behind you can cause glare. We plan the desk position with the window in mind, often with the light to one side. It is one of the first things we look at in Earlsfield. Most enquiries start with wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day and a guest room that’s needed for work; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
In an older house, sockets may be few and in tricky places, so we plan cable routes to the sockets you have. If you need more, that is a job for your electrician before the furniture goes in. With a large share of the homes around Earlsfield built before 1919, it’s worth thinking about early.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

What it’s made from
Moisture-resistant MDF
Because it cuts cleanly, MDF suits panels and angled pieces. We use a moisture-resistant grade, which is stable and takes paint well. It makes up most of the visible parts.
Birch plywood
We use birch plywood where strength matters. It suits desks, long shelves and drawer boxes. The edge can be left on show or painted.
How we price fitted home offices
The price for your room depends on:
- Parking near your home
- The width and height of the space
- Spray painting or hand painting
- How many doors and drawers there are
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside during the design visit.
Before the design visit
Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Rough measurements: width, height and depth
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
You do not need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly during the design visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, tell us about the room on our contact form. The written quote follows the visit.
Questions we’re often asked
How do you fit fitted home offices in a flat in Earlsfield?
At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. Home offices are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Earlsfield?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.
How is a home office priced?
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. The size of the room, the amount of desk, shelving and storage, and the finish all shape the price. To get a quote, use our contact form and we will arrange a design visit.
What materials do you use for home offices?
The office is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The desk, shelves and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
It can be done with some care: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
Can you add power points to the desk?
New sockets need an electrician. We plan the furniture around them, with cable routes through the desk and units. They can then be fitted where we’ve allowed for them.

Fitting day, step by step
At the end, we tidy up and take up the floor coverings. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, particularly in a controlled parking zone, so it helps to tell us at the measuring visit what’s outside. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement.
- You get in touch with some details about the room and the home it is in.
- At the design visit we plan the office and measure the route in: stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways. It helps to let us know about parking, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
- A quote in writing follows, covering the design, materials and finish.
- The desk and shelving are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route.
- We carry the sections in, assemble them in the room and fit them, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Before fitting day
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
How to get a quote
The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing for you to look over. To book one, get in touch through our contact form.

When you need someone else
Before you plan the job, it helps to know what we don’t do:
- Changes to the structure of the house
- Making good the walls, which is for a plasterer or decorator
- Any wiring or new lights, which need an electrician
If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room. How it works.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
It’s worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture typically costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.
Built-in desks and shelving in Earlsfield
Homes built before 1919 make up about 65% of the housing in the area around Earlsfield, with about 12% built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for home offices, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Earlsfield, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Andrew (Grade II), less than half a mile south, and Earlsfield House (Grade II), less than half a mile north-west. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character may need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. Where a home in Earlsfield is on or beside a main road, it is useful to mention that during the design visit. We’ll plan where the van can stop.
If you live near King George's Park, a desk placed to make the most of daylight makes a big difference to a working day. Living in a block of flats near Earlsfield station? Then each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. If you live in a period home close to St John the Divine, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk.
