Harlington Fitted Wardrobes
In Harlington, we design fitted wardrobes around the room you actually have. Your fitted wardrobe is designed at a visit to your home and made in our workshop.
- Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall
- Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
- A bedroom that never feels tidy
Need fitted wardrobes in Harlington?
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
About our fitted wardrobes in Harlington
In a period bedroom, the alcoves beside the chimney breast make natural wardrobe spaces. A pair of alcove wardrobes keeps the chimney breast as a feature, scribed to follow the uneven walls. Picture rails and cornices can be met neatly or cut around. If you are living with gaps above and around standalone wardrobes and space under the eaves going to waste, that’s what fitted wardrobes are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Some post-war homes have lightweight partitions between bedrooms, and tall furniture stands on the floor, tied back where the wall is strong enough. Because many homes around Harlington date from between 1945 and the early 1970s, each wall is checked before anything is designed. Nothing heavy relies on a thin wall alone.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the fitted wardrobe we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and it is what the workshop builds to.

Materials and finishes
Plinths and scribe strips
Scribing means trimming edges on site to follow the walls and ceiling. This closes the gaps a straight wardrobe would leave in an older room.
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish often suits wardrobes in older houses. You choose the colour.

How fitting day works
You are welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Drilling into concrete is noisier than into brick or plaster, so a word with the neighbours before fitting day can help. Fitting day is planned around any building rules on noisy work. Dust is kept down and cleared as we go.
- You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom.
- We visit to measure up and plan the doors, rails, shelves and drawers with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
- You receive a quote setting out the design and the paint finish.
- The wardrobes are made in sections in our workshop. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors.
Before fitting day
- Tell us about parking near your home
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
Getting a quote
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. For a quote, message us from the contact page.
Advice
Fitted bedroom furniture in Harlington
Homes built between 1945 and 1972 make up about 49% of the housing in the streets around Harlington, with about 27% built between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. The National Heritage List records 13 entries within half a mile of the centre of Harlington. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Hillingdon are set locally. Where a street in Harlington is controlled, a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension from the council. We ask about parking at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Close to Lake Farm Country Park? Keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. Living in a block of flats near Heathrow Terminals 2 & 3 Rail station? Then it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of St Peter and St Paul, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

Before and after fitting day
Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after with a little care. A few things help it stay looking good:
- Check how much space there is in front for doors to open
- Clear the wall where the wardrobes will go before fitting day
- Work out the split between long and short hanging
- Think about where you will keep shoes, bags and folded clothes
Doors can settle a little once the wardrobes are filled. Hinges can usually be adjusted to line the doors up again, and sliding doors can be reset on their track.
Do not overload a single rail or shelf. Shelves and rails are sized for everyday loads.
Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Harlington
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Heathrow Terminals 2 & 3 Rail station?
Yes, homes across Hillingdon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Will a conservation area stop me having fitted wardrobes fitted in Harlington?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need someone to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?
Yes. A common layout is tall cupboards either side of the bed and storage above the headboard. We plan it so the bed fits comfortably and the room still feels open.
What can go inside a fitted wardrobe?
We plan it with you at the measuring visit, starting from the clothes you have. Some shelves can be adjustable so the layout can change.
How long are you in the house for fitting?
How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We will explain what fitting day involves before we start.
Why bespoke in Harlington?
Under a sloping ceiling, standard wardrobes leave most of the space unused. A bespoke wardrobe can be shaped to follow the slope, with hanging where it is tall and drawers or shelves where it is low. A room without alcoves gives ready-made furniture nothing to sit into, so it stands out from the wall, whereas fitted furniture can make its own recesses.
How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.
