Fitted home offices for homes in Heston

The desk is the heart of a home office. We make it to a height and depth that suit you, your chair and your screen, with storage below where it helps. Shelves and cupboards can be planned around it. The design visit in Heston is where these choices are made. If your home has paperwork and files with nowhere to go and wires with no tidy route, that is what home offices are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Heston, the spare bedroom or dining room often doubles as the office. Cupboards that close over the desk let the room switch back when you have finished. Cable routes and the position of sockets are planned into the design.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the home office we have designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished.

Heston homes and fitted home offices

In the neighbourhood around Heston, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 44%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 33%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Near the centre of Heston, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Leonard (Grade II*), less than half a mile east, and Vicarage of St Leonards Parish Church (Grade II), under half a mile east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling can require listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. About 33% of homes in the neighbourhood around Heston were built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Rooms from that era suit a full-width desk with shelving above.

If you live near Inwood Park, a desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight. Osterley House, about 1.2 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk. For families living near Westbrook Primary School, a desk with shelves and closed storage can serve both work and homework.

Questions from Heston

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Heston?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Do you cover homes near Southall station?

Yes, homes across Hounslow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

How long is the fitting for a home office?

How long the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Every part is made at our workshop before we arrive. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

Getting it in is planned during the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

How is a home office priced?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. A simple desk with shelves involves less work than a full wall of cupboards and drawers. Everything is set out in a quote in writing after the visit.

Pricing fitted home offices in Heston

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. This is what makes the difference:

  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Parking near your home
  • The overall size of the piece
  • How many doors and drawers there are

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.

Helping us understand the room

Ahead of the design visit, we will normally ask about:

  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • What the furniture needs to hold

Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you are ready, message us from the contact page. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

When you need someone else

We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:

  • Making good the walls, which is for a plasterer or decorator
  • Connecting printers and screens
  • Turning an unconverted loft into a room

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can get in touch through our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How a job runs, step by step.

Materials and finishes

Moisture-resistant MDF

Doors and panels are made from moisture-resistant MDF. It holds its shape and takes paint well. Either finish suits it.

Pull-out drawers

A set of drawers can sit under one end of the desk. The middle stays open for your knees and chair. We plan it at the design visit.

From workshop to your room

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know during the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. First you tell us about the room and what your work needs.
  2. At the design visit we measure, look at the light and the sockets and plan the layout with you.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the office we’ve discussed, for you to read through.
  4. The desk, shelving and cupboards are made in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We bring it to your home, fit it and leave it ready to use.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

Arranging a design visit

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A quote in writing follows the visit. To arrange the visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Advice

When is bespoke worth it?

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
