Fitted home offices in Knightsbridge
Flats, blocks and rented homes
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it during the design visit.
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Let us know about it when you get in touch.
How we make fitted home offices for Knightsbridge
A fitted home office gives your work a proper place in the house. Our home offices are made for spare rooms, alcoves, landings and loft rooms, shaped by the way you work. In Knightsbridge, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. We make home offices from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about a screen that’s hard to read by the window and paperwork and files with nowhere to go.
In a period house, a front-room bay gives a desk good daylight, while the recesses beside the chimney breast take shelving. Around Knightsbridge, where a large share of homes date from before 1919, a room like that can work as a study and still feel like part of the house. Each piece follows the walls rather than a straight line.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

What happens on fitting day
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving everything tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.
- To begin, use our contact form; a brief note on the room and your desk set-up is plenty.
- We visit to measure and plan the desk, shelves and storage, and look at where the light falls.
- A quote in writing follows with the design, materials and finish.
- The office furniture is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with gaps for cables planned in.
- We fit it in your home, scribed and set level, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
Before fitting day
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
Starting with a design visit
We quote once we’ve seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Common questions about fitted home offices
I live near London Victoria station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Westminster and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details about the room.
Will a conservation area stop me having fitted home offices fitted in Knightsbridge?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Is it possible to have a desk under the eaves?
Yes, if the loft is already a converted room. Headroom is the main thing to plan around, so the desk sits where you can stand up. Shelving and cupboards can fill the lower space under the slope.
Do photos help?
Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, particularly with rough measurements. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form.
Can a home office double as a guest room?
Often, yes. The desk, shelving and storage can be designed to leave room for a bed, or with doors that hide the desk away. If space is tight, a wall bed can be built in alongside.
How do you get large furniture into a flat?
We plan the route in at the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and each section is made to a size that will get through.
Is bespoke worth it?
Standard shelving can sag under the weight of books and files. How far a shelf spans and what it carries make a difference. Shelves are made to suit the load, with thicker shelves or support where the span is long. Ready-made tall pieces have to be fixed to the wall for safety, and in an older house that can mean fixing into brick or lath and plaster. Fitted furniture is designed with the wall in mind.
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Working from home in Knightsbridge
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Knightsbridge were built before 1919 (about 67%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 15%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for home offices, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Knightsbridge is partly covered by the Royal Parks Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house does not normally need permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. Vans bringing furniture to Knightsbridge fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. We go through parking and access at the design visit.
For a family home near Hellenic College of London, a desk long enough for two can serve a laptop and a homework book side by side. Apsley House, about 0.5 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window.
Knightsbridge is about 1 mile north-east of City of Westminster, part of the City of Westminster. From period terraces to newer flats in Knightsbridge, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. Across Westminster, we cover Knightsbridge, along with the rest of the borough.

Could you do it yourself?
Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot normally do that in an older room.
Why people ask for fitted home offices in Knightsbridge
The most common reason is working from home. A kitchen table or a corner of the bedroom soon stops working. A built-in desk and storage make working at home far easier.
People normally get in touch with us about needs like these:
- Shelving that bows under the load
- Files and folders piling up
- Cables trailing across the desk and floor
- An tricky space with no furniture that fits
Living in a block of flats near London Victoria station? Then home offices are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.
