Our fitted wardrobes across W1K

Loft conversions, common in London terraces, often leave sloping ceilings. A fitted wardrobe can follow the slope, with long hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it gets lower. It turns an tricky corner into storage. We make fitted wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes and a tight bedroom where doors get in the way.

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as we will have talked about during the design visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.

  1. You send us a few details about the room and the storage you need, including any slopes, windows or alcoves.
  2. We come to measure the room, check the walls and ceiling and agree the layout. We also look at the way in, in case the sections need to go up narrow stairs.
  3. You receive a written quote setting out the wardrobes, doors and finish, so you can see what’s included.
  4. Each section is built in our workshop to the room’s measurements.
  5. We fit them in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

Quotes in W1K

Tricky rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That’s reflected in the quote.

Arranging a design visit

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space. To send them over, drop us a line using the contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Fitted wardrobes across W1K: local notes

If your bedroom in W1K has a chimney breast, the alcoves either side are natural places for storage. Where there is not one, fitted wardrobes can run along a full wall instead. Each design is scribed and levelled on site.

Homes built before 1919 make up about 51% of the housing in W1K, with about 16% built since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. More than half of the homes in W1K (about 51%) were built before 1919, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Older bedrooms typically have alcoves and tall ceilings, both of which fitted wardrobes can use. Purpose-built flats are home to about 74% of households in W1K, based on Census 2021. For a flat, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.

We cover the whole of London, so homes in W1K are well within our area. If you’re unsure about access or parking, mention it when you get in touch.

Mayfair: The wider area includes historic houses such as Handel Hendrix House, about 0.2 miles north. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice. Living in a block of flats near Bond Street station? Then it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.

Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Honest limits

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work aren’t part of what we do. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Decorating or plastering the room
  • Curing damp, which needs the right specialist
  • Taking out a chimney breast to make space

What prompts fitted wardrobes

Sharing a bedroom means sharing the wardrobe. A fitted wardrobe can be planned with separate sections, each with the rails, shelves and drawers its owner needs.

A few of the things people ask us to solve include:

  • Empty alcoves in the bedroom
  • Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
  • Mismatched bedroom furniture
  • Dusty space on top of the wardrobe

Materials and finishes

Doors and drawer fronts

Where there’s room to open them, hinged doors give full access. In a narrow room, sliding doors save space.

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting lets you judge the colour in the room as it goes on. Scribed edges and joins are painted along with the rest.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Modular interior systems can be rearranged easily, and that flexibility is useful. A bespoke interior is planned around what you own, and adjustable shelves keep some flexibility.

  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room

Questions from W1K

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in W1K?

Yes. We design and make fitted wardrobes for homes in W1K, and the process is the same everywhere we go.

What affects the price of fitted wardrobes?

Each room is quoted on its own: size, internal fittings, the finish and how tricky the walls are all play a part. You will get a quote in writing once we have measured up.

Is the furniture made to order?

Everything is made in our workshop for your room, then fitted in your home. It is built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?

Floors in older houses are often out of level. The wardrobes are levelled on adjustable feet or a plinth.

Which boards do you build with?

Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, depending on the part and the design. Your quote sets out the materials.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.
