Do you need fitted home offices in Mayfair?
Keeping work in its own space is a common wish. A desk with doors, or an office in a spare room, lets you close the door on work. It makes the house feel like home again in the evening.
We are often asked to help with:
- An alcove or landing that could take a desk
- Wires with no tidy route
- A room with two jobs to do
- A screen that’s hard to read by the window
If you live near Green Park, a desk placed to make the most of daylight makes a big difference to a working day.
Before you hire any carpenter
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
- How they handle walls that aren’t straight
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- Where they’ll park and unload
Fitted home offices in Mayfair
Each home office is built in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits desks and long shelves, while MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. It’s then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in Mayfair. People usually come to us about work things on show in the evening and files and folders piling up; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Ceilings in homes built before 1919 are often tall, and a large share of the homes around Mayfair date from then. Shelving can go up high above the desk, with the top shelves for things you rarely need. Some internal walls in older houses are lath and plaster, so fixings are chosen to suit, and long shelves are sized so they don’t sag.

More for homes in Mayfair
How fitting day works
At the end, we tidy up and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.
- It starts when you get in touch with some details about the space, including the equipment you use.
- At the design visit we measure, look at the light and the sockets and plan the layout with you.
- We send a written quote setting out the design, materials and finish.
- The desk, shelving and cupboards are made in our workshop.
- The office is fitted in your home and checked, ready for work.
How to prepare
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
Arranging a design visit
To make a start, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us which room you have in mind and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and discuss the design, and a quote in writing follows.
Advice
Common questions about fitted home offices
My house in Mayfair is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?
Yes, that is normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.
How do you fit fitted home offices in a flat in Mayfair?
We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Home offices are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
Is it possible to have a desk under the eaves?
Yes, if the loft is already a converted room. We plan around the headroom, so you can stand at the desk. Shelving and cupboards can fill the lower space under the slope.
Who chooses the colour?
You choose it. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.
Before and after fitting day
Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:
- Let us know about parking near your home
- Look at the window and where the light falls
- Think about where the sockets are now
- Consider your chair when planning the desk
A soft, damp cloth is the best way to keep the furniture clean. Avoid scourers and harsh cleaners. The front edge of the desk picks up marks first.
Hot mugs can mark paint, so a coaster is a good habit. Keep liquids away from the edge. A mat protects the area you use most.
Home working in Mayfair: local notes
About 51% of the homes in the area around Mayfair went up before 1919, and about 20% since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. The National Heritage List has 858 entries within half a mile of the centre of Mayfair. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. Streets close to central London are often narrow and busy, with loading bays in short supply, so the route from the van to your door is planned beforehand, particularly for larger pieces.
For an older house near Grosvenor Chapel, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window. The wider area includes historic houses such as Handel Hendrix House, about 0.2 miles north. For a period home anywhere nearby, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk.
Mayfair is within the City of Westminster, about 1 mile north-west of City of Westminster. From period terraces to newer flats in Mayfair, we measure the room as it is and design around it. In Westminster, Mayfair is one of the places we cover, and the borough has 29 places on our list.

We also make fitted home offices in nearby places like Westbourne (2 miles west), Little Venice (2 miles north-west), Westbourne Green (2 miles west), Pimlico (2 miles south), Maida Vale (2 miles north-west) and St John's Wood (2 miles north-west).
What’s near Mayfair
The streets we cover here include those near St George's Church of England Primary School, Royal College of Nursing Library & Museum and The St Marylebone CofE School and the streets around them. Mayfair has its own railway station: Bond Street station. Other landmarks nearby include Kingly Court (under half a mile east) and London Eye Hospital (0.5 miles north). For a walk, there’s St. James's Park Lake.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.
