TV and Media Units in Knightsbridge

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make TV and media units for homes in Knightsbridge, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Standard units leaving gaps
  • Cables trailing across the wall
  • Clutter around the TV

How we make TV and media units for Knightsbridge

Built-in TV and media units bring the screen, set-top boxes, speakers and cables together in one piece of furniture. Instead of a stand, a tangle of wires and a few odd shelves, the whole wall is designed at once. If you’re planning a TV unit in Knightsbridge, we start with a design visit to measure and talk through what you use. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about a TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall and alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste.

In streets where so much of the housing went up before 1919, as it did around Knightsbridge, plenty of living rooms are two reception rooms knocked into one, each with its own chimney breast. That can mean one pair of alcoves for shelving and the other for low cupboards, with the screen on a chimney breast between. Some internal walls in houses of that age are lath and plaster, so fixings are chosen to suit what’s behind the paint.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the TV unit designed for your room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

How fitting day works

Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, especially in a controlled parking zone, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement.

  1. You tell us about the room and what the unit needs to hold.
  2. A design visit follows, where we measure and agree the layout, with ventilation for boxes and amplifiers.
  3. We put the design, materials and finish into a written quote.
  4. We then make the unit in our workshop.
  5. The unit is fitted in your home, ready for your equipment.

Before we arrive

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway

Getting a quote

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Advice

Knightsbridge homes and TV and media units

Homes built before 1919 make up about 67% of the housing in the streets around Knightsbridge, with about 15% built between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how TV and media units are fixed and fitted. Within a mile of the centre of Knightsbridge, 17 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. Parking on many inner London streets is controlled, with zones run by each borough. In Knightsbridge, a van will normally need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Let us know about parking near your home during the design visit.

If you live near Royal Parks of London, a room that looks out on trees deserves a design that leaves the window alone. For a flat near London Victoria station, TV and media units are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Knightsbridge is about 1 mile north-east of City of Westminster, within the City of Westminster. We can visit homes in Knightsbridge on weekdays, or on a Saturday by arrangement. Our work takes in places right across Westminster.

In SW1X, SW3 and W1K, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. If your home is on a street like Hans Road, Park Lane and Cadogan Lane, or close by, we can arrange a design visit for TV and media units. The A315 and A4202 run close to Knightsbridge; on busy main roads, unloading TV and media units takes a little planning. If you are just outside Knightsbridge, we also cover Tyburn (1 mile north), Mayfair (1 mile north-east), Hyde Park Estate (1 mile north), Connaught Village (1 mile north) and City of Westminster (1 mile north-east). Elsewhere in Westminster, we also cover Soho (2 miles north-east), Covent Garden (2 miles north-east), Aldwych (2 miles north-east), Charing Cross (2 miles east), Adelphi (2 miles east) and Lisson Grove (2 miles north).

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

Tips worth knowing

These points come up often when people plan TV and media units. They’re worth knowing whatever the room:

  • List every box, console and speaker that needs a home
  • Mention parking and stairs when we visit
  • Think about which things need to be seen by a remote
  • Decide where you’ll sit, so the screen height suits it

Vents and equipment shelves gather dust, so clean them now and then. It keeps air moving.

Ask your electrician about new sockets rather than running extension leads through the unit, and don’t overload sockets.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s quick to buy.

It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

FAQs: TV and media units in Knightsbridge

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Knightsbridge?

It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to London Victoria station?

Yes, homes across Westminster and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room.

How do I get started?

Simply fill in our short enquiry form. It’s useful to send rough measurements and a few pictures, and we’ll arrange a design visit, followed by a quote in writing.

Can you add sockets behind the TV?

Your electrician does that. It’s best done before the unit goes in and we design the cable routes around the sockets.

How long will the fitting take?

It depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. The unit is built in our workshop first, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.

How much will my TV unit cost?

Every job is priced for its room: size, internal fittings, the finish and how tricky the walls are all play a part. The written quote follows the design visit.

Why people ask for TV and media units in Knightsbridge

Upgrading to a bigger screen is a common trigger. The old stand no longer suits it, or the screen takes over the room. A unit around it puts it in proportion.

These come up often when people first get in touch:

  • Leads that show from every angle
  • Space for a soundbar and speakers
  • Boxes with no ventilation
  • Set-top boxes stacked on a stand

Near listed buildings like Apsley House, about 0.5 miles east of the centre of Knightsbridge, older homes may keep original joinery that TV and media units can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
